US always chest thumps when it comes to Bangladesh but always beats a hasty retreat.

Most famously in 1971 when they beat a hasty retreat from the Bay of Bengal - leaving their Pakistani allies stranded.

Then in the famous 1/11 meltdown of the BNP.

But why?

1. US really has nothing much to offer BD having labelled it a basket case. US is only interested in countries with mineral resources and BD has none.

2. Bangladesh is a single ethnic state - which means US cannot use its divide and conquer policies to ferment ethnic strife like it did in Vietnam, Libya to Iraq.

3. Bangladeshis cannot be co-opted to fight for the USA. We didn’t fight for the British empire either!! We are not like Pakistanis or Gurkhas or Sikhs or Khurds etc etc USA is desperately trying to get us to fight its wars against China - but it knows we WILL NOT.

On the flip side the trio of Russia, China and India are offering huge investments.

1. Russia will build and operate our biggest infrastructure (Roopur Nuclear) for the next 25 years.

2. China built our biggest bridge, first tunnel and EPZ. And our largest source of FDI.

3. India is our largest trading partner and about to become our first free trade partner.

No Bangladeshi government will upset the above trio for Uncle Sam.

Excellent post but Vietnam was more due to the communist split between the North and South.

Like BD, it is also a single ethnic country.

Kola bhai,

Spot on analysis. Let our brethren (and cistern) from the West of Wagah enjoy their geostrategic location. Let us be "blessed to live in uninteresting times" as the taller than mountain friends would say.

No. In Vietnam USA co-opted the Mnong - who fought for them.

USA airlifted 10s of thousands of Mnong people to Minnesota - after the surrender in Vietnam.

People need to be aware that the Bengal regiments lead the fight against the British in 1857 war of independence.

After this the British stood down nearly all of the Bengal regiments.

Punjabis and Sikhs were the native traitors that sided with the British as otherwise history would have been completely changed.

When the British came to S Asia, they knew only the Bengalis were their equal and so they did everything they could to destroy Bengali power.

They were irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. Ethnic Vietnamese controlled North Vietnam and 90%+ of the soldiers were also Vietnamese.

UKB dada,

If I am not mistaken most of the Bengal regiment were actually folks from Bihar, Eastern UP etc

Also the Hmong people recruited by Yanks came largely from Laos, not Vietnam proper.

Fortunately, young Bangladeshis do not see western people as superior.

They are very pro China, Russia and India.

The largest American structure in Bangladesh is their enormous embassy.

Americans built a giant fortress whilst China built a mega bridge and Russia built a mega nuclear power plant.

That just shows the American mentality!!!!

Bangladesh is trying to diversify its trade - hence Tipu Munshi is currently in India to negotiate an FTA 😂🤣🤣🤣👏👏👏👏

The ones crying here still have this Western slave mentality that the white man knows best.

Imran Khan was overthrown as he also did not want to bow down to the white man - too many inferiority laden traitors in Pakistani army and political establishment saw him off.

Truly pathetic with their inferiority complex.

UKB Dada,

This hypothesis is highly debatable, Only youthias subscribe to this.

It’s an irony that I grew up in the west and am fully assimilated in white culture. We even had stuffed Turkey, roast potato and crackers YESTERDAY!!! Our tree lit up 😂😂😂

But I do not see it as superior!

It’s an irony that we (lighter skinned Sylhetis) do not see the whitemen as superior but the blackies in Dhaka want to worship the whitemen.

It’s truly baffling!!!

Imran Khan kept praising Bangladesh and was obviously envious of Hasina.

He went to Russia with love but returned back to face American hate!

Actually it is not.

We know by living among them that they are no more knowledgeable than us as we have had access to the same education system as them.

They are just as imperfect as any other race, albeit they managed to become developed nations before anyone else.

Yep! Sylheti kids now outperform white Kids.

Only Jews, Indians and Chinese fare better.

Dhakayas still carry the whitemen’s burden 🤣🤣🤣

Imran Khan was the greatest leader that Pakistan ever had.

I am sure that relations between BD and Pakistan would have improved and eventually BD and Pakistan would have had friendly relations.

If Pakistan can get rid of the inferiority laden traitors in their political and military establishment then they as well can join in the great economic boom in the rest of S Asia.

anyway, BD military is uber pro China.

They will not support BNP after the Taiwan debacle.

BD military still sees India as the greatest threat and wants China as a counterweight.

Whilst BAL is pro India, BD military remains firmly pro China.

Where the fu*k does USA come into it???!!

Imbeciles here think that the USA is doing BD any favours by buying 10 billion US dollars of goods from it every year.

Even in garments it would take many months if not years to re-source specific garments from others suppliers, especially as BD is starting to go up the value-added chain now. It is no longer mainly a supplier of dirt-cheap garments.

As BD no longer makes the really cheap clothes and so there is limited options to resource away from BD at very short notice. Also people forget that it will take time to ramp up production in alternative suppliers as there is never too much idle capacity waiting to be utilised.

Like I have said before USA is pretty much irrelevant in BD geopolitics and the imbeciles cannot give a compelling reason why USA would want to get rid of Hasina as she has no malice towards the USA or the West in general. BD people love everyone!

USA really has nothing to gain from regime change in BD as in this ever changing world it is in USA's interest to remain on friendly terms with a Muslim country that is stable and growing its GDP very fast.
