Su-30 MKI Maneuverability..!!

117 engine intended for powering prototype of Pak Fa, has thrust of 33,000 lbf which is 14,969 KG.

When Prasun K Sengupta said that Super MKIs will have 15 ton engines, he was reffering to these beasts.

AL-31F M1 offers thrust of 30, 300 lbf whcih is 13,608 KG and it is already in production.

Could one of these engine be used on Super as ASEA radars, which will fitted on Super MKIs will demand more power.

For a (AESA) little more extra power can come from an alternate source, instead of going for a bigger engine as a remedy viz; Starter-Generator, which are permanently engaged to engine = Shunt generator.

Many gas turbine aircraft are equipped with starter-generator systems. These starting systems use a combination starter-generator which operates as a starter motor to drive the engine during starting. After the engine reaches a self-sustaining speed, the starting system operates as a generator to supply the electrical system power.

From the news about the MKI overhaul:

HAL has also partially indigenised the Su-30MKI’s giant AL-31FP engines,
which are built in Koraput, Odisha. Fifty-three per cent of the engine
by cost has been indigenised, with the remaining 47 per cent consisting
of high-tech composites and special alloys – proprietary secrets that
Russia will not part with. Even so, HAL builds 87.7 per cent of the
engine’s components in India.

This experience might be the reason why they keep ordering and producing that engine, instead of going for another one now. That doesn't that the AL 31s will remain the same, since upgrades can be included too, but they seems to be pretty confident about the engine now and the next aim might be to further reduce the parts from Russia or develop own improvements. Either way, such a slower but steady learning curve is better, than switching between projects and doing the same mistakes again, like ADA / DRDO often do.
