His foster grandfather (mom's foster father) Gen. Shah nawaz Khan was in the Azad Hind Fauj along side Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. He was the uncle of the current Director-General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Zaheer ul-Islam
