What's new

Opening ceremony of 16th Asian Games kicks off

no i dont want every picture to be of " Pakistan ", I just didnt see any in the opening ceremony and that was disheartening and yes i would have liked to see some there

Anyways i never made a request for you to stop posting pictures, your posts are appreciated

@Brotherhood...I was talking about the opening ceremony pics, this is a Pakistani forum but we have lots of members from different nationalities here so if your posting opening ceremony pictures of a huge game event it is only befitting to honor all the nations..While this is just an internet forum, the ideas and the body language here is not limited to internet..People's opinions can easily be influenced based on what people read and see here

Other than that, good job both of you :china:

Creder sir, i totally understand what you were trying to convey. If i were you, i would do the same thing.

There is a Chinese idiom"喧宾夺主", which loosely translates into "a presumptuous guest usurps the host's role". It is a very disrespectful behavior by Chinese definition, and i apologize for being that "presumptuous guest".

But please also allow me to do some self-justification. I was more anxious than anyone here to post pictures of Pakistan and I had tried to find pictures of Pakistan in major Chinese news channels, but i couldn't find many.

Chinese medias are only obsessed with Chinese team, or other teams like South Korea, Japan, who are gonna compete with China in the games. Maybe sometimes they will spare some pages for other countries who have made a breakthrough and won their first medal. In general, the coverage of foreign teams is very limited.

I hope you can understand I have no intention to be rude, or to ignore Pakistan.

haha, you just nailed it buddy, btw its their games, their ground, their party and their thread, they are enjoying their winning and we dont have much to enjoy on our part, let them celebrate, so its their right to include or exclude pakistan, we are gonna win some gold tomorrow, so gonna have some separate threads for that:smitten:

btw nice pictures.., china has elevated the status of asian games through its great infrastructure, but these events should come to middle east and south asia for a change ;)

Pakistan wins first gold at Guangzhou Asiad in women's cricket - People's Daily OnlineNovember 19, 2010

Pakistan defeated arch rival Bangladesh to win its first gold medal at the Guangzhou Asian Games in women's cricket on Friday.

They are also the first cricket champion in the Games' history, as the sport debuts in Guangzhou.

Earlier, Japan scored a narrow seven-wicket victory over the host China to win the bronze.

Eight teams, including other four teams from Nepal, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Thailand, compete for the title.

There's a lot of discussions on the Chinese internet about whether China should only send young athletes to the Asian Games instead of sending established players. The point is China is winning too many medals and it makes the Asian Games boring for other countries.

So what's you guys opinion on this?

Well I guess sending younger athletes would help train them but I really don't see what's wrong with sending the best atheletes either. Isn't this what all the other countries are doing?

I think they are wearing too less. And this may actually be offensive to some guests...IMHO... unless they are athletes.

agreed. we see this sort of things every day but they should not be put as part of an official ceremony. what kind of message does it give to people about what kind of country we are?

yeah, otherwise there's no challenge... look at the medal tally we won more than everyone else combined.

I don't see how you can impede the forces of commercialism. Television stations want high ratings. Foreign countries can select the portions of the multiple broadcast feeds that they choose to air.

The Asian Games is a premier sporting event because world records may be broken. People compare the Asian Games in Guangzhou to the Beijing Olympic Games because world-class athletes are present. Everyone wants to watch the Chinese Olympic champions and/or World champions compete.

Removing the best-in-the-world Chinese athletes would downgrade the excitement and prestige of the Asian Games. I do not recommend it.
