The government’s guidelines with regards to social distancing amidst COVID-19-induced lockdown went for a toss in Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday. A large crowd gathered in the streets of Banda to welcome a Jain monk.

Jain monk Pramansagar had reached Sagar along with 20 of his followers.

According to news agency ANI, a video of the event shows how people mocked the social distancing norm while the government is making all the efforts to flatten the curve. In Madhya Pradesh, the total number of coronavirus cases stands at 3,986.

The Madhya Pradesh police have now issued a directive to initiate an investigation into the incident.

"Directions have been given to investigate and take action against organisers if social distancing norms and Section 144 were violated,” said Praveen Bhuria, ASP Sagar.

Religious zealots are the same everywhere, only some are more dangerous than others.
In Bangladesh, many such fools gathered for funeral prayers last month of a recently deceased preacher.
