Three World Heritage Sites in Cairo, Egypt, were illuminated with the Chinese national flag on March 1 to show solidarity with the Chinese people in the fight against the novel coronavirus epidemic.
The three sites were the Salah El Din citadel in Cairo, Karnak temple complex in Luxor, and Philae Temple in Aswan.
The decision to light up the sites was made by Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and was the result of collaboration between the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities, China Cultural Center in Cairo and the Egyptian Company for Light, Sound and Cinema.
Egyptian Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed left Cairo on the same day for Chinese capital Beijing to convey Egypt's solidarity with China in combating the novel coronavirus after being tasked by Sisi to make the trip.
