BMC begins modernization of 81 Leopard 2A4s​

BMC started the modernization activities of 81 Leopard 2A4 Tanks within the scope of the TİYK-LEO2A4 Project. The tanks will undergo extensive modernization.

The modernization processes of the Leopard 2A4 Main Battle Tanks, which are in the inventory of the Turkish Armed Forces, continue. Initially, 40 Leopard 2A4 Tanks were modernized by Roketsan with the "T1 Additional Armor System" and their resistance against anti-tank ammunition was increased.

Leopard 2A4 Tanks are undergoing a much more comprehensive modernization within the scope of the Project of Bringing Additional Capabilities to Tanks - Leopard 2A4 ( TİYK-LEO2A4 ) initiated by the Presidency of Defense Industries . According to the information obtained by SavunmaSanayiST.com; In the project, where the main contractor was BMC, the modernization activities of the first 81 tanks were started.

Additional armor systems will be integrated into 81 tanks and many electronic subsystems, from fire control systems to vision systems, will be changed. Although 81 Leopard 2A4s will be modernized in the first stage within the scope of the project, there is also an option for 250 units, according to the information obtained by SavunmaSanayiST.com. The modernization activities of 81 tanks are planned to be completed by 2026.

Even the news article you posted is where %100 of parts come from Aselsan and Roketsan.
BMC just puts them on the tank and takes the money because BMC is a politically favored, corrupt and incompetent company.

They STOLE Turkish Army's Arifiye Tank Facory and they STOLE the Altay tank. With the help of the corrupt politicians.

well, if the tank wouldnt enter the service within 2-3 years they can make some upgrades like additional protection. how? we have 40mm grenade launcher(ATOM) for incoming UAVS , we have side radars and RCWS on ALTAY tank , why not make them together. add 40mm launcher on Aselsan Sarp and integrate it with AKKOR Aps. i think there is no solution in the world like this. this way we can prevent uavs, loitering munitions from far far away distances. only threads were prevail artillery and tank cannon. why not?

40mm grenade launchers are completely ineffective against aerial targets due to low muzzle velocity, not only that but the radar to detect an UAV can never be integrated in a main battle tank like this. We have to just make the fucking tank. I don't care if it has 1200hp engine instead of 1500. It just needs to work.

If it came down to it, what would really increase Altay's effectiveness would be having some proper ammo. Our ammo selection is frankly very poor.

Basically we only have APFSDS and HEAT, no thermobaric, no smart ammo like ATOM, no gun-launched missile, nothing.

Thats your own personal assessment. the Factory privatization brought in investment that increased production capacity from multiple sources and investments into the Turkish defense sector. All the previous Turkish Private defense companies got the patronage of CHP figures and the deep state. Bayraktar was blackballed from Govt contracts before b/c of the religious background the the Bayraktar family. The entirety of state enterprises were propped up in republic history b/c of the patronage they paid to the one party state set up by İsmet İnönü and his gang. Bayraktar put Turkey on the map, and an asset like Seljuk Bayraktar would have been unrealized if people discriminated over silly personal affairs of people.

You want to use SARP as part of AKKOR system like a CIWS, I'm sure it could be done, it could be good at shooting down incoming missiles, but akkor doesn't have what it takes to search, identify and track UAVs flying overhead.

If things were that simple Korkut wouldn't need a search radar like this:

anyway, as long as we have systems like Korkut, there's no need for Altay to shoot down enemy drones.

The U.S. is working on a solution from top attack ATGMs as the current European conflict showed this as the main threat for tanks on the battlefield.
