What's new

The day that KAAN will fly

.
Technologies planned in the design of the KAAN but not in the F-35

• Directional Infrared Counter Measures .. ( Aselsan YILDIRIM DIRCM)
• Supercruise ..... ( Supersonic flight without afterburner )
• 360° AESA Radar coverage
• IRST infrared search and track system .. ( DAS on the F-35 can not mark )

And KAAN is a different aircraft from the F-22

-- Sensor fusion with EOTS , IRST with unique configuration
-- 360-degree vision with AI-enhanced battlefield awareness.
-- BEOS/EOTS (Advanced optical Systems)
-- HMDS (Helmet Display System) .. only F-35 and KAAN
-- Locking on to enemy aircraft from all directions
-- IRST Infrared Sensor
-- Artificial Intelligence Co-pilot
-- Pilot Health Tracking
-- DIRCM Laser countermeasure
-- 360° AESA Radar
-- 4 AESA radars will cover the hole KAAN
( 2 on the wings, propulsion between the engines, and the nose)

F-22 lacks EOTS , IRST , GaN AESA Radar , HMDS (Helmet Display System) , DIRCM Laser countermeasure , Artificial Intelligence Co-pilot , 360° AESA Radar coverage and Pilot Health Tracking

DIRCM is not an urgent requirement for F-35 because of its excellent EW capabilities:

ASQ-239.PNG

Always active, AN/ASQ-239 provides all-aspect, broadband protection to help the F-35 reach well-defended targets and suppress enemy radars. This system stands alone today in its ability to operate in signal-dense environments, providing the aircraft with radio frequency and infrared countermeasures, and rapid response capabilities like no other aircraft. Its platform level design provides improved reliability and maintainability, optimizing long-term lifecycle costs.

The AN/ASQ-239 is also built for the future, with an architecture system that allows new capabilities to be added for the F-35 fifth-generation aircraft. Our Digital Channelized Receiver Techniques Generator and Tuner Insertion Program (DTIP) technology upgrades the AN/ASQ-239 system to enable new capabilities, further improving warfighters' ability to conduct critical missions in contested airspace. This improved EW system delivers the world-class functionality of the previous system in a smaller footprint, reducing volume and power requirements and creating space for future upgrades.

F-35 will receive DIRCM capability with Block 5 update.
F-35 DIRCM system will be LO-compliant.

F-35 EOTS includes FLIR and IRST:

F-35 DAS provides 360 degree visual EO/IR coverage and has target detection and acquisition capability:

360 degree AESA radar coverage is unnecessary when the radar system can obtain lock on a potential target that is illuminated by another sensor. You need to maneuver to engage the target anyways unless its angle of approach is from the front.

-----

F-22A is being used as a test bed to test 6th generation aircraft capabilities. Who knows what is put into it?
US does not feel the need to advertise F-22A modernization efforts.

All you need to know is that F-22A is well-equipped to kill any jet fighter in the world.

-----

It is too early to evaluate KAAN in the present. Current prototype is yet to be flown and there will be much to learn when it will be flown and stress-tested. Prototyping will show what is feasible and what is not in time.

It can take a long time to develop a truly LO-compliant jet fighter. For perspective:

J-20 first flight took place in 2011.
J-20 became operational in 2017 with limited capabilities.
J-20 is expected to be mature in 2024.

This is the situation when China has blueprints of F-35.

Of all active and in development stealth fighters around the globe, TAI Kaan is the one which resembles F-22 most. Which is a huge compliment.

This resemblance is superficial as shown here. Turkey was involved in F-35 program and could adopt its concepts to develop KAAN.

F-22A is not exported to any country so replicating its design and capabilities is out of question.

But KAAN is taking shape and this is something to be proud of.

.
It is a great honor to have even built an aircraft that can be compared to the f-35. We cannot compete with the USA. When we finish the fifth generation aircraft, they will have finished the sixth generation.

Our goal should be to be in the top 3 in the whole aviation field after 10 years, just as we were in the top 3 in the UCAV field.

KAAN also has excellent EW capabilities
( ASELSAN FEWS -- Fighter Electronic Warfare Suite )

and Aselsan YILDIRIM-300 DIRCM to intercept IR homing Missiles to make KAAN more survivable in combat

F-35 will receive DIRCM capability with Block 5 update.
F-35 DIRCM system will be LO-compliant.

6th gen Fighter Jets to use directed-energy laser CIWS

-- F-22 , KF-21 , J-20 lacks DIRCM
-- KAAN and F-35 Block5 to use DIRCM

Currently, the number of countries that can produce DIRCM and use it on their platforms is quite limited

SU-57 has DIRCM too

F-35 DAS provides 360 degree visual EO/IR coverage and has target detection and acquisition capability

F-35 has great technology
KAAN also will have great technology and capabilities

F-22 , KF-21 , J-20 lacks 360° situational awareness

-- F-35 360-degree situational awareness with DAS
-- KAAN 360-degree situational awareness with 4 AESA Radars

F-22 , KF-21 , SU-57 , J-20 use HUD

KAAN and F-35 use Helmet-Mounted Display System (HMDS)
( KAAN and F-35 to fly without a HUD )

HMDS fully utilizes the advanced avionics architecture of the KAAN and F-35 provides the pilot video with imagery in day or night conditions

virtual cockpits presented via helmet-mounted displays which allow the pilot 360-degree vision with AI-enhanced battlefield awareness

Aselsan TULGAR HMDS to provide a sense of use as if the Aircraft does not have a fuselage

Color screen and digital night vision technologies ( the first time in the system )

Yes You are right ...
KAAN needs 10 years to become operational with full capabilites 2023-2033

-- KAAN first flight 27 december 2023
-- 20 KAAN will be delivered to the Turkish Air Force with limited capabilites in 2028
-- KAAN to become operational with full capabilites in 2033

1-- new turbofan Engine from TR-MOTOR for 5th gen capability
2-- with AI-enhanced battlefield awareness ( 360° situational awareness with 4 AESA radars - sensor fusion with EOTS , IRST with unique configuration )
3-- high-capacity networking , AI, data fusion
4-- Artificial Intelligence Co-pilot
5-- Pilot Health Tracking
6-- DIRCM Directed Infrared Countermeasure System by high power LASER
7-- HMDS (Helmet Display System) with AI-enhanced battlefield awareness
8 --Increased-range BVR Missile (GOKHAN ramjet powered long range networked a2a missile )
9-- excellent EW capabilities with ASELSAN FEWS -- Fighter Electronic Warfare Suite

10 -- full data-to-decision (D2D) capability for multi-layered distributed team of diverse manned aircraft working in concert with unmanned types ( KAAN , ANKA-3, KIZILELMA )

Lol))
DIRCM is against IIR head missiles, how are you going to jam it with EW? do you even know what you are talking about? at least do a little research.
as you can jam radar head air to air missiles, it was sought that 5th gen fighters will mainly fight using WVR missiles with IIR head like bozdogan, but with DIRCM, you can also use DIRCM as hard kill to stop those missiles.

EW capabilities are used to jam and/or spoof sensor systems. If the opposing jet fighter is unable to obtain a lock on an F-35, what good is its munition?

And infrared decoys are a thing. Google it.

DIRCM is a laser-based solution.

F-35 is already packing so many sensor systems that are carefully tailored to not compromise its VLO aspect.

You cannot just put each and every sensor system on a VLO-compliant jet fighter and call it a day. You need to figure out how to install it within the frame in such a way that it does affect stealth and does not become a weak point in itself. This is very challenging undertaking.

Otherwise, just use F-15.

There seem to be a misunderstanding of my earlier post.

I compared ALL existing and in-development 5th generation fighters to the F-22, and said Kaan bear most resemblance to F-22 of ALL 5th gen fighters, including F-35.

Later comes some members and say Kaan resembles F-35 more than F-22. Which might well be. But that has nothing to do with my original post.

.
Turkey designing a '5th gen' with mostly critical foreign purchased parts including engine.

Everything on that plane except for the Martin Baker ejection seat and the F110 engine is built inhouse. And the F110s are license produced in Turkey, the engine will the be replaced by a domestic engine later on.
