National Mourning Day today

Sorry, not with Indian help.

It is a fear crazed mind that feel that the world is collapsing because of a foreign hand!

Jolly good.

Good job done!

While I have no love lost for Mujib since he wanted to follow China's way of one party rule, I think it would have served Bangladesh better to put him on trial and then get rid of him, politically or otherwise.

Md Akarmal and Zakira would have been delighted if if were 14 August since they, in any case, finds the Liberation and Independence to be disgraceful and disloyal.

And who knows, they maybe right!

@ I never say that the Liberation War of 1971 was disgraceful and disloyal. Here, we are discussion why Sk Mujib was killed and a National Mourning Day !!! What a Mourning Day !!! Who observed it !!! It only from the out ward. A great portion of AL also does not want that. Most of the people sheds crocodile tears only to please Sk Hasina. Now the question is why Sk Mujib was killed ? Who killed him ? And again there are people like Tiki Tam Tam and roy_gourov are now mourning !!!!!! Was it justified ?

1. Mujib was killed through the instigation of Western Power, the Capitalist Block countries. Mujib had a very good relation with Marshal Titu and Fidel Castro. It was through their guidedance Mujib abolised all political parties in our country and imposed one party system, the BAKSHAL.

2. He was completely in the Russian block politics. He made a very good relation with Russia by passing India which was not liked by India. Once he joined the Organisation of Islamic Countries(OIC) at Lahore in 1974 without informing to India which was not liked by India. After comming from Lahore he at once sent Moni Singh(Comminist Party) to convince USSR. In those days the relation between Bangladesh and India was not going good. Mujib was fed up with the Indian interference. Probably for that reason he was determined to follow Russian style of Socialism. He banned all the religious oriented political parties from the very beginning. Thousands were still in Jail.

3. Under these circumstances a small group inside Army organised themselve and took the blessing of high achelon of AL itself and "Kella fate". All these young army officers were freedom fighters.

Bengali people or Bangladeshi People still lacks a leader like him. He led the movement and we achieved our independence after 1200 years. Atleast, for him we are thankfully not under Delhi/Islamabad. We rule our land, at least. CHEERS!!

Can you name one person in this very forum who supported the murder of Mujib's family? If you were a bit more informed about the history behind the Mujib era, you would know that the man was clearly playing with fire.

Read the posts above my comment. One is calling the child ' bad fruit' another saying it was necessary !

Im aware of the history of mujib era. Don't give me the crap about one party rule. It's not as if you guys were beacon of democracy! East pakistan/bangladesh have been under military rule for most of existence as a nation state. It was a hate crime.

@ The majority of Bangladeshi people donnot like the Mujib family. Once he was killed AL was still in power. Just within 15 days a parliament session was called on and Amnity Act was passed by the members of parliament all belongs to AL. The killers were declared as the "Surjo Santan" and the heroes of the Nation. It was the AL which formed the govt. Only 4 AL leaders opposed and quickly were arrested and later executed at the Jail by the direction of Khondokar Mustaque.

@ But the sitution in 1969 -1971 was complete different. Most of the young people were doing Leftist politics and they supported Mujib. All the killers of Mujib family were freedom fighters.

@ The support of the AL in Bnagldesh increases at the rate of arithmetical progression and where as anti-AL feeling increases at the geometrical progression. More the new generation comes more anti-AL and anti- India feeling is increasing.

@ AL is holding power artificially, it has no public support base. Yes, it has a support among the Hindus and the diheard members of AL. The number is too big but not that much through which it can come to power by public support. The general election of 2008 was a total farse. Even the election of 1996 was also manipulated in some selected areas by the members of "Janotar Muncho".

Nice to know bd decorates child killers as heros of the nation and then you have the audacity to point fingers at bsf! Thankfully because of our farsighted leaders we parted ways with these people!

Well, I do wish that there was a better solution to it other than killing him. I'd generally support punishment of Mujib's killers for the sake of justice. Ironically, they are still running around freely even under the AL

If you were to live in Bangladesh right now, you can say that the AL under Hasina is not going great. Her son Joy is highly corrupt and pretty much does his best to defile Muhammad Yunus, although does so behind the scenes.

Now on a practical side, imagine if all of Mujib's kids were alive today? You should know well what the Mujib family did with all the aid money Bangladesh got at the time. It was also looted by the AL men. They even took all the money from the banks. All media outlets were shut down. No such thing as law and order in the early stages of Bangladesh back then. Not even a judiciary. There was nothing.

Even Tejauddin Ahmed (who was a decent fellow) was taken into army custody and executed. So yes, even the army officers had unfulfilled demands.

Now suppose under those circumstances, what would happen to Mujib and his family? What would the freedom fighters and the ex-Pakistan military officers do? The end-result was obvious. And yes, Major Zia did play an indirect role - although it's too early to draw any conclusions about him. I find him an enigmatic character. Ironically, he was also assassinated. And guess by whom? Why, by the blessings of Hasina and Ershad.

Mujib was generally a good man, but he was clearly barking up the wrong tree. Albeit a very dangerous one.

Now if we were to talk about today, does that tragic event deserve justice? In my opinion - yes. The same applies to the assassination of Zia. And would the guilty try hard to avoid justice? Why yes. They'd do everything to prevent their political careers from crashing right before their faces. And of-course the riches!

But the way his daughter is carrying out everything, the whole thing is just getting blown out of the water in my opinion.

And are the AL still corrupt? Why yes, even with a judiciary in place. The same can apply to the BNP.

It's a not a simple case of good guy vs. bad guy. Reality is rarely Hollywood or Bollywood.

All I can say is that there is a huge air of uncertainty in the politics of Bangladesh. It's economy is doing fine for the most part, but it's politics is heading in the opposite direction. Much of that has to do with Hasina's leadership.

Mourn day for Awami Bengli nationalists whereas relief day for Bangladeshi nationalists. When Mujib died, people said Alhumdullah with a relief and people may have read fee nari jahannama khalideena instead of Inna lillah... A tyrant of past can be saint of today no matter how much la-hasina try. This day should celebrate as Najad day during BNP regime and shall be done in future.

And Khaleda Zia celebrates her birthday on National Mourning Day, even though its not her real birthday. Classy:disagree:

If you care so much then you should stop celebrating 15th Aug as your independent day. Begum Khaleda Zia is not obligated to follow Awamis mourn day. It’s begum Zia’s desecration to celebrate birth day or relief day

Abbey, there are about 15k born every day in BD so what are you going tell all of the kids parents that they can not celebrate their birth day in 15 Aug because Mujib was killed that day.

Wow, they really said that? There are so many pictures and articles on The Daily Star. Are they propaganda?

But boy, that Sheikh family certainly left a bitter era. May I dare say it still is

When he was killed, people said Alhamdulillah and distributed sweet out of Joy. His body was left alone for week and no one was there to joint his Namaz e janaza. He was really hated by the people. It was day of relief.

One the flip side, when Zia was assassinated, people from all across the country cry like a baby and still the day, his namaz e Janaza was the biggest in our history.

La-Hasina can not force people to like him just because she is trying to reverse the history.

@ No Al-zakir, you are wrong it was not for a week may be maximum for 46 hours. People used to hate him like anything, this is correct.
