JF-17 Thunder - Information Pool

There were 2 options for IFR

1. Chinese which I think is basically copy of Israeli and perhaps NATO std.
2. PAC and South African adoption of Mirage upgrade for JF-17 , probe is NATO std.

Not sure which option was exercised.

The valves in the probe and drogue that are most commonly used are to a NATO standard and were originally developed by the company Flight Refuelling Limited in the UK and deployed in the late 1940s and 1950s. This standardization allows drogue-equipped tanker aircraft from many nations the ability to refuel probe-equipped aircraft from other nations. The NATO standard probe system incorporates shear rivets that attach the refueling valve to the end of the probe. This is so that if a large side or vertical load develops while in contact with the drogue, the rivets shear and the fuel valve breaks off, rather than the probe or receiver aircraft suffering structural damage. A so-called "broken probe" (actually a broken fuel valve, as described above) may happen if poor flying technique is used by the receiver pilot, or in turbulence. Sometimes the valve is retained in the tanker drogue and prevents further refueling from that drogue until removed during ground maintenance.

Its the RF proximity fuse.

Below you will find two pictures where in the first production batch the 4 fuse sensors are covered in red, while in another picture the Pt-06 is carrying a live round showing in golden color the RF proximity sensors.

Drop tanks on JF-17 carry 1100 liters of fuel. The recent article listed them as 1000 liter which is wrong or they just wanted to round.

1100 liter / US Gal 3.7 = 297 or ~ 300 US Gallons. Under belly is 800 liter so 800/ 3.7 ~ 216 Gallons.

JP5 weight ~ 6.6 lbs per US Gallon so 300X6.6 = 1980 lbs of Gas plus drop tank and pylon weight is the max load of pylons, am I correct?

Under belly already cleared for 2000 lbs MK84 which other then F16 no other a/c of the PAF can carry or are not usually carried.

Wing tip is cleared for ~120 KG i.e. max weight of PL-9 (assumed) and PL5EII and A-dater type ~90kg plus launcher wt. not sure about other stations but 2 X MK82 LGB ~ or 250KG X2 = 500kg plus pylon may be the max.

I hope they add under intake pylon for LDP but Chinese pod is heavy compared to say LM F16 pod (Sniper is ~200KG) vs WMD-7 ~280 KG, french and Israeli pods wt. ranges ~230-250kg

JF-17 total internal / external fuel capacity is 6000 liters. 3000 liters internal + 3000 (1100+1100+800) external. Mirage 5 internal is more 2700/2800 kg vs JF17 2300 KG + (2330KG exact) but its a little bigger, F7 is ~1900/2000 KG internal but its engine fuel consumption sucks compared to RD-93

A Team of 5 Members of GHQ Visits PAC Kamra

08 May, 2014 - A team of 05 members of GHQ visited PAC Kamra on 08 May, 2014. The team was headed by Vice Chief of General Staff Major General Ghayur Mahmood. The team was welcomed at PAC Kamra. A briefing was given to the visiting team, presenting the products and capabilities of PAC Kamra. Detailed question-answer session was carried out during the briefing, which showed keen interest of the participants. The briefing was followed by a visit to the factories. The visiting team of GHQ highly appreciated the established facilities. The head of team acknowledged that Pakistan Aeronautical Complex Kamra plays a vital role in the Aerial Defence of Pakistan.

Hi,

During the 60's 70's the american had a major concern about the russian fighter aircraft---they were smokeless---OTOH---the american fighter aircraft smoked a lot---. They were curious and did not know what to do.

Any way a libyan pilot defects to israel with his russian aircraft---the air craft had jet fuel of russian origin. So the lab they sent to research the fule found out that the russian had some how used a process to mix natural gas molecules to jet fuel---and thru other processes elongated the molecular structure and made the molecules same size overall ( I am not a chemist )-----. Also the fuel did not have any sulphur impurities either.

Guess what happens later---the american jet fuel coming out after that discovery is smokeless.
