Combat Aircraft Projects & Designs - Index in 2nd post

The TS-16 Grot (Arrowhead) was a supersonic Striker and military jet trainer designed in Poland by Tadeusz Sołtyk. It is the first jet made without any foreign support from the East, and its creation was received very coldly by both the Kremlin and by the West (since Poland was under Soviet protection at the time). The project was started in 1958, but was canceled in 1964 for unknown reasons before production could start. Despite this, a mockup designated TS-16RD was built. The RD version was expected to use Soviet RD-9B engine from the MIG-19 although an indigenous powerplant called the SO-2 was also in development for the final version. The production version was to have two engines, although the TS-16RD prototype that was built had only one.

The XF-103 was a fighter specially designd for high altitude and high speed intercept incoming enemy bombers
The design of the airframe was plausible to reach mach 3 but the experimental engine and it's intake system was beyond the knowledge of the designers and engineers then. Weight kept climbing and available power from the engine kept going down.

F-105 Thunderchief
The Mach 2 capable F-105 bore the brunt of strike bombing over North Vietnam during the early years of the Vietnam War, and has the dubious distinction of being the only US aircraft to have ever been removed from combat due to high attrition rates

The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter is a single-engine, high-performance, supersonic interceptor aircraft originally developed for the United States Air Force (USAF) by Lockheed. One of the Century Series of aircraft, it served with the USAF from 1958 until 1969, and continued with Air National Guard units until it was phased out in 1975

XF-108 Rapier
The North American XF-108 Rapier was a proposed long-range, high-speed interceptor aircraft designed by North American Aviation. Initiated to defend the United States from supersonic Soviet bombers, the program was cancelled in 1959 due to a shortage of funds.

XF-109
The Bell D-188A (unofficial military designations XF-109/XF3L[citation needed]) was a proposed eight-engine Mach 2-capable vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) tiltjet fighter that never proceeded past the mock-up stage.

The Leduc 0.22 was the prototype of a Mach 2 fighter built in France in 1956.It was the first attempt at a practical application of the ramjet technology that had been developed in the 0.10 and 0.21 research aircraft over the previous years. Unlike all previous Leduc aircraft, it featured swept wings and a coaxial turbojet-ramjet powerplant to enable unassisted operation.

The Republic XF-84H "Thunderscreech" was an experimental turboprop aircraft derived from the F-84F Thunderstreak. Powered by a turbine engine that was mated to a supersonic propeller, the XF-84H had the potential of setting the unofficial air speed record for propeller-driven aircraft, but was unable to overcome teething aerodynamic deficiencies, resulting in the cancellation of the program
