hello friends

yesterday a thought struck me that Snecma Kaveri can be used as power plant of our indigenous bomber (it has 90kn thrust as sources tell)

India can develop a B 52 like plane (simple design) and this plane can be powered by 8 to 10 Snecma Kaveri engines

if we succeed we will get a bomber with a payload of 15,000 kg (minimum) and range of 8,000 KM (non refueled-estimated)

your opinion is welcomed members

The bombers wont come into action unless there is complete air superiority achieved..Are you sure India is going to achieve that?

its a good idea,but
1.We don't really need that kinda aircraft as of now. However a technology demonstrator won't hurt!
2.I seriously don't think that we have the tchnical expertise to build such an airframe.

supposing it can produce ~82KN of force per engine, it might be a possible proposition.

sources tell that snecma kaveri can produce 90 KN thrust

Ok suppose India can build such thing but what are we supposed to Bomb with this Huge thing ???
Are you planning to Bomb all neighbours in single run ??? :D

15T & 8000Km is not needed now and it will create undue tensions :P

are we building a medium size passenger jet for civil use (heard months ago)

so we have some experience of building and developing at least medium size air frame

Bad idea....Firstly it will be expensive considering you will be putting 8 to 10 Snecma Kaveri engines. Secondly the operational cost, the maintenance itself will be costly. Training will also be complicated. Countries like Russia (Former USSR) they built 100s of Bombers thereby reducing the cost and justifying the setting up of a manufacturing unit. India on the other hand don't have the need for more than 1 squadron of Strategic Bomber and that too IAF doesn't want and this is the reason why they are going for multi-role role air-crafts.

Considering the development in the radar technology and increased Chinese espionage, i don't think a Bomber can go too deep in a country like China which has a defence budget of more than 100 billion $ without being detected, its not like that a strategic Bomber will be able to maneuver its way out and if India wants to bomb closer areas we have alot of aircrafts for that. Su30 mki has a operational range of 3,000 km and with 1000km range Nirbhay coming soon, i would prefer Su30mki over a Bomber.

aprox 92-95 KN is required for the tejas program...i guess itl get there.

On topic...we neither need such an aircraft nor does the IAF want a cumbersome craft that would be easy pray with country having Awacs etc.

Tactical high yield bombs carried on stealth medium to heavy fighters that can hit and run is what we need.

What we could do is make a versatile non stealth bomber Like the A-10...good at loitering and giving air support.

Better use Kaveri to power passenger jets and Business jets, in that way we can retrieve the money put in the project and continue to fund other engine programs.

^^ but such bomber can be used to fire standoff weapons like nirbhay ALCM

imagine a scenario when this bomber fires nirbhay missiles towards enemy while remaining hundreds of KMs away from target

it wont be easy pray then but a vital asset which will give us huge advantage

The thrust that most of you talk about here is the After Burner thrust, but bigger aircrafts don't have an AB and just use dry thrust, but Kaveri don't produce anywhere close the thrust that would be needed

Also, India don't need bombers because they wouldn't be useful against the 2 main opponents. Pakistans size and distance makes most targets in reach of even our ground launched cruise missiles, while the main Chinese targets are at their eastern sector and any bomber would be easily intercepted way earlier. That's why SSGNs, SSBNs, more capable carriers and long range balistic missiles are beeing developed, just with deterrence against China in mind!

we are still not doing well with saras, though the airframe was fine.
Lets gather some expertise first.
