There has been a clear movement of Pakistani policy away from the region you have mentioned. Rather then focus on a region where trade and peace are not constant, Pakistan with the help of China, is moving towards Central Asia as well as towards countries such as Turkey and with an eye on increasing trade with Europe.Pakistan and India have been admitted to SCO. This is where China is the center and everyone revolves around it. Russia, India, Pakistan, and other CARs are satellites of different sizes and colors.
Quiete possibe that now BDesh and Nepal too would want to become members of SCO.
What does this means for India lead SAARC?
It may become obsolete now.
What are your thoughts?
To concentrate on areas where there has been no real break through would be foolishness to say the least, rather to move towards areas more accepting and better suited to long term trade are more beneficial in the long term. Rather then try to work as through an organisation there needs to be a move towards making stable relations before any other steps are taken, and Pakistan has not benefited at all through Saarc and thus it is an useless organisation for us.
Also SCO has become a real player in world economics, and Indian addition will add more clout to it. With China and India growing rapidly, and with Russian and Central Asia's markets opened the SCO will become a very important organisation in times to come.
