Cop closed for abusing girl

A sub-inspector Kotowali Police Station of police was closed to Dhaka Metropolitan Police headquarters on Tuesday in connection with abusing a girl at a police club in Dhaka.
A two-member probe committee of Additional DC, Maruf Hossain, and Assistant Commissioner, Rajib Al Masud was asked to submit its report on the issue within 24 hours, DC Lalbag Division Harun-ur-Rashid told The Daily Star.
SI Zaman allegedly abused a girl on Tuesday afternoon inside police club adjacent to the chief metropolitan magistrates court of Dhaka.
Later, the law enforcers took the 15-year-old girl along with a lawyer to the Kotwali Police Station.
Witnesses said a girl along with her parents was going out of the court by a motorbike.
When the trio reached in front of the police club, police intercepted their bike.
Citing the motorcycle was hijacked from some other people, police tried to take her father inside the police club.
As the girl resisted police, they dragged her inside the club and tried to abuse her.
Escaping the police clutch the girl ran out and sought help from the lawyers in front of the court.
As soon as the news spread, the court correspondents gathered there to cover the incident.
The law enforcers than swooped on the newsmen and charged baton on them leaving at least 10 court correspondents injured including MA Jalil Ujjal of the Kaler Kantha and Tuhin Hawlader of the Bangladesh Protidin.
At one stage police tried to pick the girl and a lawyer in a police van.
When the lawyer called for help from Prashanta Kumar Karmakar, the court correspondent of Bangla daily Prothom Alo, police assaulted him mercilessly.
