The other day at Motijheel, there were loud explosions in front of Purbani Hotel and Biman office. Some Imams were throwing cocktails and burning cars. Normally, there is police presence in the area.
I had a talk with one of the security guards of the hotel. He said that as soon as the violence started, the police officers in the area fled the scene. And when things have calmed down, they come back and arrested random people, particularly the hawkers and charge them. They have to appear that they are doing their jobs after all. Those imams are still on the loose, and there is a very strong core group of Shibirs in that area. A group that the police are fearful of.
This randomly picking up innocents happen quite often.
This suggests low morale among the ranks of the police. I also observed rather poor discipline and training of the new recruits.
