the debate between government and privately employed docs is like this:
government docs: exposure to extreme cases, cases that would never end up in a private setup will end up in a government set up so the practical experience is tremendous. my father is an orthopedic surgeon, and back in days when he was in a govt setup these chaps would get certain absolutely smashed up cases, very complex but tremendous experience to be gained.
private docs: international exposure is phenomenal, almost every two months a doc in a good private hospital is outside the country attending conferences/delivering lectures/attending various courses/trainings etc and then within the country these chaps are out every fortnight/month getting trained or imparting trainings depending on how well a doc is networked.
dad's worked in both the setups , though i have never asked him to evaluate the two but both seem to have their own advantages, one gives you hands on experience on cases that one would rarely come across of complex nature, the other gives you an opportunity to get trained in techniques which are by far the best the world uses, who are better, take your call, but either way both are working for one cause!
