Pakistani patients facing heavy odds in India

Patients are not for doctors to make money. We are not a capitalist country. That kind of cost is totally unseasonable. Who can pay that kind of money? The rich maybe, but it is not only the rich who need liver transplants. This is a sector which is totally unregulated. The govt should step in immediately and put a stop to this non sense. Apollo, I can understand but why Ganga Ram is so expensive is beyond belief. I had a lot of faith in Ganga Ram, they have some of the best facilities and doctors in India, but they used to be very patient friendly.

The cost of liver transplant ranges between 7lc-15lc, depending on condition and hospital. in my college its cost is around 9lacks. and this cost is very reasonable. first of all non availability. not everyone donates their organs. have u enrolled for it? i am sure no. second, preserving it is costs a lot. third, our body rejects most of them. its just too much choosy which increases its cost. then doctor fees, hospital charges etc. etc. its not surgery but liver that costs more. increase in organ donation and improvement in stem cells will bring its cost down.

Are 32 lakhs in pakistan currency?

No that is in Indian currency. It gets double in Pakistani currency that is Rs62 lakh in PKR so its really a big big task for middle class patients who go to India for treatment whereas elites go to Western countries as they dont have any dearth of money.

Its sad to hear about all this-

Firstly- Pakistani Patients going to India for treatments because of inadequate facilities back home-
Secondly- The death of two patients- even after spending that much-

Yes very unfortunate and we must work on establishing liver transplant sections on war footing here in Pakistan.

a Good news i heard on TV channels is that PIMS will have a liver transplant facility soon. i dont know how much soon that will be but we have to start it ASP

I am sure india can send a couple of doctors to train the personell at similiar pakistani establishments. Its sad the stringent visa rules are applicable even when the seeker is terminally ill and requires immideate attention. Advanced indian medical facilities are state of the art....the patients usually expire during the 'waiting period' for visa and other 'formalities'.

Either streamline/fast track visa procurement procedure for the terminally ill or set up training facilities in pakistan. Human life takes precence over border dispute.

Mech it is the responsibility of the Pakistani Government to contact India for medial exchanges and getting training from Indian doctors.

if we can have exchanges of nach gana then why cant medical which is more important to save lives.

Once Pakistani Govt takes steps in this direction then visa issues can be solved easily for medical treatment of patients.

The private hospitals get several tax concessions and cheap land costs in prime central locations from the govt, so they are socially obligated to share a part of their facilities to the masses.
Do u even know how costly the medical instruments are ?

Only The cameras that are used in endoscopy cost around 3 lakhs . The instruments used even more .

The instruments used in transplant treatments are in crores .
10-15 lakhs for transplant operation is fully justified keeping in mind the high skills required by a doctor. If u miss a thing patient is gone

And ppl say tht life is priceless .
If ppl want both facilities and low cost then it's not possible

the figure 32,00,000/- is in pakistani rupees, in a private set up the same for an indian will cost between 10,00,000-16,00,000indian rupee.

32,00,000/- is in pakistani rupees includes:

travel to india by air/rail/road.
extended stay in india, and the required time period in hospital which will vary from case to case and based on the recovery in case of each individual.
surgery.
post surgery administration of medication which to start with is of high dose, where certain injections administered can cost as high as 3,00,000/- pakistani rupees.
patient is immediately put on immuno-suppressants, steroids which cost a lot.
medical tests, though which are subsidized for the transplant patients but still tests which are pretty expensive.

indians do not need to go over board with their reactions looking at the expense, the same treatment in a government hospital can cost you one third or a lot less and if you are a government employee or have a medi-claim, transplants get covered and all your expenses right from stay at the hospital to surgery and treatment get reimbursed, the same applies in a private hospital where if the hospital is on the panel of a company (pvt/public), govt and you have medi-claim and there is provision for complete reimbursement.

no, not really. take out AIIMS and R&R, then you have no comparision. also, medical treatment is very cheap in india..!

Clearely, you have some quality weed in your posession. Do you know how hard it is to get in a government medical college? Do you know the amount of exposure the kids at govt medical colleges get?! You dont get a quarter of that in private institutions. Just because you probably paid your way through it 'does NOT mean the brightest are in pvt institutions. How much do they charge these days? 1 crore?

Very well said !
I had to repeat a year coz I didnt get admission in gov college .
Private colleges first dont have good teachers, bad infra but good gardens . One of the dental colleges in Mumbai doesnt even has a dental chair .
But their fees are 4 - 8 lakhs a year .

There are 2200 government medical seats in Maha .
Last year I scored 167/200 , rank around 1280 . I didnt get a seat.
I am repeating this year :)

some of us burn ourselves to get into govt colleges unlike the folks that pay their way through private institutions.

There are long line of famous doctors and engineers in our family. All of them...including me, slogged our way through those horrible mock exmas, entrance exams, advanced exams...and the like. Only one person, my cousin paid his way through private college.

@Mech
It's 1 crore in private institutions and 40 lakhs in doomed universities ( I mean deemed) :D
