KARACHI: Pakistan Air Force Chief Tahir Rafique Butt has said that Pakistan would respond to any aggression in befitting manner.

He was speaking at a ceremony in connection with the conclusion of tripartite exercises, which started in October 2012.

JF-17 Thunder warplanes took part in the exercises for the first time, according to a statement issued by the PAF.

It said that the PAF chief stressed for preparedness and swift reaction to prevailing security challenges.

“We are a peaceful nation but are fully prepared for security of our motherland,” the air chief was quoted as saying.

finally they grew some balls....I wish ISPR had issued this statement, well this coming from Air CHief Marshall is nothing less either.....we need to send a clear signal to those who think we are sleeping or busy on the other front.
Have a diplomatic relations our neighbor about don't get easy on the violation of airspace / border / LOC .

Respond in a befitting manner? Possibly by looking the other way? Respond with What? like they did in Abbotabad?

muse brother are you really asking this question? Peter Bergen in his book - Manhunt clearly wrote that PAF f-16s were scrambled but people at WH / Situation room made some stress calls, now am not advocating on behalf of PAF but just presenting my arguement. It is whole different story we never acknowledged this version of the story

muse brother are you really asking this question?

We are better when armed forces personnel do not behave as politicians -- If PAF or any other arm of the state wants to engender confidence of the citizenry in it's capability then they act not talk - don't you think?

OK, lets look at this in some detail - What is a befitting response? Air Defense ?? Does PAF have the ability to pick up possible intruders before they intrude? If they do, why did not work in the last two weeks?? See, all thst such talk does is that it reduces the confidence of the people, because they don't want talk, they want action, that give them confidence that PAF or PA has policies and ability and the WILL to use them, to defend the country and it's citizens and Their PROPERTY.

Shoot anything down in Pakistani airspace.

Think and release statements after. The whole country is scared, I can smell weakness.

BTW, where are F16's stationed?

You are right when you say Actions speaks for itself, last week when indian jets entered oyr airspace my elder brother was furious over paf for not doing anything, people loose hope and trust. Those jets were picked by well with in indian territory and jets were scrambled to intercept them but shooting them down was out of equation as it was in 2008 when two su 30s flankers fly past lahore......we are not looking for a war

Actually, though I may be mistaken, but if I recall, press reporting indicated that the aircraft were picked up a couple of miles close to the border, and an ATC asked the intruding aircraft whether they knew that they had intruded -- all very civil -- not now this belicose stuff with "befitting response" -- Give the Islamist insurrectionist a befitting response and you can be rest assured it will be heard LOUD and CLEAR, around the world, in the meantime, who is going take seriously, people who do not taking fire raging in their own house seriously ?

I understand where your head and heart is, rest assured we are all with you, just wish these uniformed types would do well what they are paid to do, instead of making speech.

Sub-continental public are stupid.
If security of the nation is not their work then what is their work.
What is need of such kind of statement. If they not secure their country from external aggression then what should they do , play golf .

The Islamic insurgents and terrorists have harmed Pakistan far more than India ever has, or wanted to, by orders of magnitude. And yet, some people's blood boils when an Indian aircraft strays for two minutes into Pakistani territory, although in all probability, it was a navigational error, and both sides resolved it amicably. American aircrafts (manned and unmanned) have done a lot more than straying, but that is now accepted as part of life. And terrorists like TTP and LeJ and the rest of the alphabet soup are killing scores of Pakistanis every week, and now that is also accepted as part of life. Nobody's blood seems to boil at any of that, although the said factors have killed tens of thousands of your countrymen, and continue to kill hundreds a week.

And yet a minor intrusion (probably inadvertent) by two Indian aircrafts has got people's blood on the boil. Where are people's priorities? As you say, mount one decisive offensive against all the Islamic militants in Pakistan, and the message will be heard round the world in a resounding manner. But statements full of hot air against imagined adversaries, when real threats are burning your home, will not be taken seriously. Is it so difficult for the 7th (or so) largest army in the world to eliminate these scums like Taliban and other lashkars and mujahideens? Are they unable, or are they unwilling? How is it that their ridiculous ideology has found supporters across Pakistan, even on this forum? In 30 years that poisonous ideology of militant islam has converted Pakistan into one of the most dangerous places in the world. In another 30 years, if Pakistan as you know it ceases to exist, it will not be because of India, but because of the enemy within. No number of nukes can protect you from that, just like the latest assault rifle cannot protect you from the cancer in your own body.

Things change with time. Don't go with the logic of "man behind the machine", often peddled here, accompanied with redundant historical examples. Nowadays war-machines are way better than any man, and we're short on these. There is absolutely no comparison today, and tomorrow looks even darker. Best way out of it, focus on economy so we can buy more of these goodies and train our people.

Hollow speeches won't cut it anymore, we as a nation better start analyzing the facts and not take what is fed to us at face-value.
