Army war-gamed possible AJK action; plans ready: Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat
By Shaurya Karanbir Gurung, ET Bureau | Sep 23, 2019, 08.26 AM IST

NEW DELHI: The Army has war-gamed any possible action in Azad Kashmir and has accordingly made plans for it, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat said on Sunday.

Rawat, who shared the development during an exclusive interaction with ET, said Pakistan will avoid a conventional war with India because it does not have adequate capabilities for it. He added it will instead continue to increase its proxy war against India.

The Army chief also said Pakistan has acknowledged supporting terrorism in J&K and it is doing this under the garb of helping the local population. Pakistan is hungry for ‘attention’ and is adamant about ensuring third-party intervention on the Kashmir issue, he added.

While speaking about possible action in Azad Kashmir, Rawat said: “The Army’s 15 Corps performs war games and it is not only on defending land. Some of them would involve going across. Even 14 Corps does such war games. So, there are plans.

Earlier this month, Rawat had said the Army was always ready for any action in Azad Kashmir, should the government pass orders for it.

Several top leaders in the government have recently commented on Azad Kashmir as well. Defence minister Rajnath Singh said last month that talks with Pakistan will only happen on Azad Kashmir. A few days ago, external affairs minister S Jaishankar made it clear that Azad Kashmir was a part of India and New Delhi will have jurisdiction over it one day.

When asked about a conventional threat from Pakistan, Rawat explained, “Pakistan is not strong conventionally. Pakistan will avoid conventional and increase proxy. He will incite us through proxy and compel us to take action. He wants attention and thirdparty or multiple party intervention.”

On Pakistan’s response following the withdrawal of Article 370, the officer said: “Pakistan is saying that it will fight India through terrorism. It is an acknowledgement of its support to terrorism in J&K under the garb of supporting people of J&K.”

Rawat, while referring to Pak PM’s statement during his US trip in July that about 40,000 terrorists were present in the country, said it had activated terrorist launch pads along the LoC. “They may attempt to send some terrorist modules into our country and say it is due to the anger of the Kashmiris.”

The joker who got his ear drums playing to the tune of H4 standoffs that struck just outside his IOK brigade HQ, who couldn't get out in public without adult diapers for weeks and only found his wagging tongue after a month or so after 27th feb...has the nerve to claim conventional supremacy while sitting on the pile of Indigenous Military Junk with just a handful of imported goodies averaging less than 40% availability rate at best.

What a joke.:taz: :haha:

This propaganda has gone for far too long that Gen Bipin Rawat was present anywhere in kashmir on 27th Feb. He wasn't there.

Jo bhoonkty hain wo kaatty nahi ... After humiliation from PAF, he wants his army to be humiliated as well ?

If Pakistan is not capable of fighting converntional war then why dont they attack ?

It doesn't matter where General Bipin Rawat was on 27th Feb. As far as this "Matrix" is considered, he was there in brig headquarter.

I am not sure of his being in the vicinity, where bombs fell. But, his absence and utter silence, for quite sometime after Feb 27, is yet totally unexplained, particularly, since he is a chronic patient of verbal diarrhea.

They kept quite about Senior Army leadership presence for months then sheepishly admitted Some Senior Commanders were there but not Bipin The Comic Hat.

Indian Army admits presence of senior commanders at HQ bombed by PAF

Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Ranbir Singh and 16 Corps Commander Lt Gen Paramjit Singh were present at brigade HQ

The Indian armed forces have admitted the presence of senior army commanders at a brigade-level headquarters – which was locked as target by Pakistan Air Force (PAF) fighter aircraft on February 27, reported ThePrint.

PAF carried out strikes a day after the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) botched airstrike in the Balakot area of K-P. As a show of strength and capability, PAF aircraft dropped precision-guided munitions, reportedly the local manufactured H-4 Stand-Off Weapon, on a compound within the Indian Army brigade HQ but deliberately did not target military personnel.

The Indians have now admitted that Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Ranbir Singh and 16 Corps Commander Lt Gen Paramjit Singh were present at the defence installation but claim they left “minutes before the bombs fell”.

India’s armed forces had denied and had refused to earlier comment on the presence of senior commanders at the location. DG ISPR Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor, in his press conference following the aerial skirmish of February 27, had urged the Indian side to reveal “who all were present at the brigade HQ”.

The new admission validates Pakistan’s claim and comes mere days after confirmation that an IAF Mi-17 was shot down by friendly fire on the day of the aerial dogfight.

Indian Army headquarters did not respond to a request for comment by the Indian publication.
