India bans import of Laptops, Tablets and Personal Computers with immediate effect

Not banned, but restrictions are imposed, although a stupid decision they'll soon withdraw I feel that they should wait for some time for it.

Hearing they'll redistribute new licenses to existing companies and restrictions will be placed on chinese firms.

Actually India has a lot of demand and India wants to give advantage those who are participating in the PLI scheme for hardware. All it takes for one major company to see potential to put up boots here and the flood gates will open. This is an important area to address for reducing our trade balance.

They probably wanted to replicate the success of hindustan ambassador, suzuki maruti and royal enfield bike where they were produced and sold several decades after they became obsolete in the rest of the world

Here is the main reason.

China dominates laptop exports structure, accounting for 440M units, which was near 77% of total volume in 2021. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (35M units), comprising a 6.2% share of total volume. The U.S. (16M units), Germany (14M units), Hong Kong SAR (11M units) and the Czech Republic (9M units) held a relatively small share of total exports.

It's India vs China at play here too.

Stupid decision.

Time will tell whether it is Stupid decision or right decision

It is the RIGHT DECISION . The Indian electronic ecosystem has reached the point where PC, Laptops and tablets can be manufactured by a number of companies.
Component import is not restricted only the finished product.
I have made my own PC since the 1990's .
It does not take great technical achievement to put the components together to make these low level products.
Any competent assembler can easily manage that.

Then you should be happy no? Indonesia will be the gainer, like you usually say that India is the hype but the true champion is Indonesia?

Both Indonesia and India have potential. What I say as hype is not something without any strong reason. 8 percent growth every year stated by many Indian economist is a hype, and currently India growth is at 6.1 % which is quite decent and only 0.6 % different from my previous prediction that I have stated in PDF months before the real figure coming out.

Lol. Don’t go quoting quarterly figures and conflate it with yearly gdp growth rate. India will do better in Q1 fy 2023-24 at over 8% because of the low base. And above 6% for the rest of the quarters. We'll see India growing at about 6.5% for the whole year.
