Combat Aircraft Projects & Designs - Index in 2nd post

generally uavs have intakes on the top as they dont need to fly at high altitudes

Isn't it the other way round?

UAV's fly high and don't need maneuverability and don't face high AoA's, so intake can be on top...and also a high aspect ratio.

F-117 also has intakes on top, but it was a bomber and not a A2A attack aircraft. So low aspect ratio with intakes on top could be done. The Iranian has low ratio by the looks of it and intakes on top, but it is a fighter, or so it seems.

the higher you go, lesser the air pressure --- to allow good airflow to the intakes most inlets are not on top.The goal is to have a uniform pressure distribution at the fan face. Except some fighters like F-107A, there are not many fighters with this config--With a dorsal inlet, there is nothing to redirect the flow and you also want to avoid ingesting the thickening boundary layer due to high alpha, or worse yet vortices off the nose--The visibility/ejection might be problematic for the pilot aswell

there were some gripen designs with dorsal intakes aswell

again, uavs have a smooth / linear flight and they can do with masking off the inlet from ground based radar and payload optimization with dorsal inlet

However I am no engineer either :)

Here's a Boeing prototype:

But the difference b/w the two is that the Boeing design has no tail rudder. The end of the wing facing downwards like that supposedly decreases drag and does not generate vortices much like a winglet, but it also affects the role of the rudder and tailplane and hence the rudder is removed. But the Iranian plane also has a rudder.

So aerodynamic design is kind of suspect in a way that this has never been tested before or used...and Iranians aren't really all that advanced in that field IMO to introduce a radically new design (no disrespect).

This aircraft does look like a mockup model and unlikely to be flying anytime soon.

the video does show few seconds of a flight of the model. although youtube comments are very unforgiving and claim that its all fake and UFO siting is more convincing.
anyway, despite the crippling sanctions Iranians are able to do things that many nations cant do

no disrespect --- just look how many weapon systems china has made in the past ten years.. I really dont know why the west wants chinese to reinvent the wheel
