its really amusing how iranians describe their f-5 clones as equivalent to f18s and f16xl ---- while jf17 even with 4.5 generation avionics is just termed as a scaled down mig21 clone

i just noticed a thread of similar name in an iranian defence forum -- the guys copy diagrams of the single engined mig 21 prototypes that russians made as 3rd gen mig21 successors [posted in this thread] and say that iran is making these and next step will be 5th gen aircraft -- they just skipped a complete generation of fighter aircraft production-- i doubt they have the avionics or metallargy knowhow to make a baseline 4th gen fighter yet they look down on the achievements of other countries

the picture showed a lot of fighters of that era , so i posted the pic -- i didnt post it to take a jab at any nationality - hence no requirement of authenticity -maybe the 1974 war-

Forget their perception, I knew all other aircraft in the picture fell victims to the PAF /Pilots, I was just curious to find out about the Phantom incident.

In any case, The Iranian's killed or exiled most of their intelligentsia in 1979.. so they basically went to square one.
The F-5 derivatives are nothing short of university projects.. maybe less.

I did hear stories that during the initial stage of the Yum Kipur war, the Israelis amongst other aircraft lost three Phantoms and claimed to the effect as only Pakistani pilots were capable of achieving such, however I couldn't find any material to this effect, hence my query.
