0213 Debut A.Man at Sinodefense Forum, via Weibo Fighter "0213" is the first Chinese built FC-1 in years; it may even have a different, domestic engine, the WS-13, which is likely to be based on the RD-93.

This month a new FC-1 light jet fighter, numbered "0213", rolled out of the Chengdu Aviation Corporation (CAC) factory in China.

The "Fierce Dragon" multirole jet fighter, as it's called, is a joint Sino-Pakistan project and has a maximum takeoff weight of 12.7 tons, a payload of 4.5 tons, a combat radius of over 800 miles, and a Mach 1.8 top speed. The "0213" moniker is significant in that it is the first Chinese built FC-1 since 2009; the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex has assembled most of the FC-1s from Chinese, Pakistani, and Russian components.

FC-1 Weapons Options PAF Wallpapers The FC-1 can carry a wide variety of Chinese, Pakistani, and foreign weapons, including the SD-10/PL-12 long range air to air missile, the AIM-9 Sidewinder infrared missile, and the Cm-400AKG supersonic anti-ship missile.

A compelling reason for CAC building new jet would be to test the Guizhou WS-13 turbofan engine. The FC-1 is currently powered by a Russian RD-93 turbofan engine, which produces around 8.2 tons of thrust. Judging by the afterburner nozzle, the "0213" appears to be using RD-93 engine. However, given that the WS-13 is believed to be a derivative or licensed copy of the RD-93, such similarities would be expected. Successful development of more powerful WS-13 models would provide China's second stealth fighter, the J-31, with higher performance.

So far the FC-1 has provided aerial fire support for Pakistani counterterrorist operations. And while the FC-1 has yet to see any export orders, upgrades like a Chinese engine, heavier payload capacity, and better electronic protection and sensors would make it attractive to developing nations looking for a modern light fighter to replace Cold War-era relics like the MiG-21, F-5, Mirage III, and A-4.

Pretty big development. Perhaps this is simply the next block being tested? Still, even if it is simply for engine tests, it shows that China is still committed to getting rid of Russian reliance, and give Pakistan a more reliable supply source; this is especially true considering India still has massive sway in Russia, and while I don't think Russia will bow down to India any longer, why risk it?

Good to see. Even if only for the export variant, still it is going to be a reliable replacement Source for The RD-93, which PAF has purchased in numbers. Although i think it will be a good idea to wait for the upgraded version if it comes to reality. Since the same engine might be used to power the FC-31, and for that it will have to be worthy of fitting in a future 5th gen platform. Whilst it can also be used on the Thunder.

PLAAF might be keen on the jet for replacing its ageing skybolt and Fantan fleet?
We'll definitely induct JF-17, that was said in the beginning, but some, in their hope of discrediting the fighter, want to say because we haven't done so, it is crap.

This is in keeping with Chinese policy of getting a few out, test it in real life scenarios, while at the same time, continue development of key parts. This is true with warships, it's similarly true with fighters.

Doesn't really matter if the Chinese induct it though....for the PLAAF.. but for the jet it will be a boost.. and a kill bill for the propaganda that the jet is not worthy...blah blah blah...

Where the hell are our 5 BLOCK II JF-17 which were supposed to come last month ? @Horus @fatman17

I think this is a platform with multiple uses in mind。

Developing a new engine(not the WS-13)fit for future generations of light jet fighter such as FC-1 and FC-31 is one。

Nothing new here. It was always thought that China will test the FC1 with a locally manufactured engine if it wants export orders beyond Pakistan and for the PLAAF to consider replacing their J7/J8 regiments with this type. So the work has started.

May the BUTT-HURT flow through the people who said "CHINA WON'T INDUCT THIS CRAPPY PLANE IN THEIR AIRFORCE" :D I can even sense it, its of pretty high intensity.
