Breaking News: Iranian boat fired missile at US drone prior to tanker attack, US official says

To all the dumbasses that believe that Iran would be behind this attack on an oil tanker, can you please answer the following questions

1. Why would Iran attack a Japanese oil tanker?
2. What possible benefit does Iran get by attacking a civilian ship, especially considering that all the worlds eyes are on it and scrutinizing its every move?
3. Who would be the beneficiary of this attack?
4. Why would you even trust anything that the US establishment says, remember the Iraqi WMDs?

It is very simple.
Iran is in a shitty situation and they want the sanctions to go away.
Attacking vessels in the Hormuz straits will cause the oil price to go up giving them some leverage. It may cause the US to attack, but they expect that this will end up in a prolongued guerilla war, which will noone can win.

They are looking for a deal where they stop attacking vessels in return for lifting sanctions.
Obviously any deal have to be covert due to public opinion.

That is not correct and is your sick assumption.

Iran is not behind current attacks, also unlike you say, Iran situation is not as bad as you suggesting to do suicide.
Iran do not want war and has enough resources to wait one year more to see what happen next.

B TEAM are behind these attacks to create war. b/c they think that is historic opportunity for them to end Iran.

Trump himself said he want to end Iran and Bolton said he like lieing and Pompeo said he lie.
They are already screaming their dirty plan, how much you are fool to not here them. Open your eyes king is naked.

I bring prove to my post that Americans are liar, Do you have any prove for your lies ?

The Japanese owner of a tanker attacked in the Gulf of Omanclaimed Friday that it was struck by a flying projectile, contradicting reports by U.S. officials and the military on the source of the blast.

U.S. Central Command said the two vessels were hit Thursday by a limpet mine, which is attached to boats below the waterline using magnets. U.S. Central Command released video it claimed showed an Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps patrol boat removing an unexploded mine from one of the tankers, the Kokuka Courageous.

But on Friday morning, the owner of the 560-foot Courageous, said that sailors saw something flying toward the vessel just before the explosion and that the impact was well above the waterline.

"We received reports that something flew towards the ship," said Yutaka Katada, president of Kokaku Sangyo Co. at a press conference. "The place where the projectile landed was significantly higher than the water level, so we are absolutely sure that this wasn’t a torpedo.

"I do not think there was a time bomb or an object attached to the side of the ship."

U.S. officials have not yet responded to the claims. But President Donald Trump reiterated U.S. allegations that Iran was behind the attack, telling the Fox News Channel that the incident had "Iran written all over it."

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Thursday that the weapons used and the level of expertise behind the attack suggested Tehran is the culprit.

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif angrily dismissed the claims and said they were without "a shred of factual or circumstantial evidence."

The attack came on the heels of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's two-day trip to Iran, aimed at improving relations between Washington and Tehran, which have deteriorated markedly in the last 48 hours.

The USS Bainbridge was dispatched to help the damaged vessels in the gulf. A spokesman for Central Command said in a statement Thursday that the U.S. and the international community "stand ready to defend our interests, including the freedom of navigation.”

“The United States has no interest in engaging in a new conflict in the Middle East. However, we will defend our interests,” said the spokesman, Capt. Bill Urban.

The Japanese Foreign Ministry condemned the attacks in a statement Friday and vowed to work with the related countries to secure the safety of the region, but did not mention Iran or other possible assailants.

German official: US video 'not enough' to pin blame on Iran for tanker attacks

Germany's foreign minister on Friday said that a video released by the U.S. is insufficient evidence to prove Iran was behind attacks this week on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman.

“The video is not enough. We can understand what is being shown, sure, but to make a final assessment, this is not enough for me,” Foreign Minister Heiko Maas told reporters in Oslo, according to Reuters.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Thursday blamed Iran for the attacks on the Norwegian-owned MT Front Altair and the Japanese-owned Kokuka Courageous, citing intelligence, the weapons used, expertise required and similar recent attacks.

The U.S. military released a video later on Thursday that it says shows Iran's Revolutionary Guard removing a mine from one of the targeted oil tankers.

The captain of the Kokuka disputed the U.S. assertion on Friday.

“Our crew said that the ship was attacked by a flying object,” said Yutaka Katada, president of ship operator Kokuka Sangyo.

Katada, citing accounts from the ship’s crew, said, “I do not think there was a time bomb or an object attached to the side of the ship," according to The New York Times.

Iran has pushed back on the U.S. assigning blame, calling the accusation “the simplest and the most convenient way for Pompeo and other U.S. officials.”

Thursday's attack came just weeks after allegations of sabotage in attacks against four oil tankers off the coast of the United Arab Emirates. The U.S. blamed Iran, pointing to limpet mines that officials said were Iranian.

Iran denied any involvement in those attacks.

Japanese and Norwegian are saying different story and mines are not in their story.

Well if a reaper was in the area and the Japanese tanker crew say they were hit by a flying object then the logical thing is to think Reaper fired a small missile toward the tankee

Limpet mine spotted on the hull of Kokuka Courageous.

Limpet mine?

A limpet mine is a type of naval mine that is usually manually placed by a swimmer, diver or frogman on the underside of a ship’s hull.

Named for a type of mollusk, or shellfish, that sticks to rocks and is hard to remove, limpet mines are similarly stuck fast to their targets, usually with magnets.

Unlike larger mines that lie on the sea floor, or buoyant mines that are anchored to the bottom by a chain or cable, limpets are usually not intended to sink a ship. Rather, they are designed to cause a “mission kill,” immobilizing the targeted ship and taking it out of action.

That is an IRGC's Ghasti-class boat.

The relative ease with which those people removed a limpet mine, suggest familiarity with it. The mine was probably a dud on top.

Assessment of Tyler Rogoway:-

Both are probably true. Iranian small boats could have, and likely did, lob projectiles towards the ship and planted mines on it. Even the firing of projectiles could be used as a distraction to mine the hull without being noticed. Iranian small boat swarming tactics including using various weapons on larger vessels simultaneously.

:frown:
Genius they are naval commoondo ,they don't worth shot if they don't recognize and now how to deal with these sort of threat .specially if the mine is something available to market.
More importantly they removed it he prevent the ship taking more damage and all evidence of who did it go lie deep under the sea.

Actually I am thinking same.

They even did not get one high quality photo from that imaginary mine.
my phone camera has more resolution that US army cameras.

Tyler Rogoway is a professional and he explained the probable attack scenario:

Recheck the information I provided in my post above. Connected some dots there.

B/W

Yutaka Katada, President of Kokuka Sangyo, which owns the Kokuka Courageous, told reporters that the ship had been attacked twice in the space of three hours. The ship was carrying 25,000 tons of methanol from Saudi Arabia bound for Singapore. The attacks caused a fire in the engine room and led to the complete evacuation of the ship's crew.

This gets deeper by the hour.
Or more likely scenario is that the reaper fired the projectile. Iranian boat would have been detected on the naval radar that the ship carry.

If Iran does not want to be blamed, it should keep its vessels at a distance from any tanker ship.

Seriously? There are so many flaws in your post

1. How would sanctions go away by attacking a civilian ship, infact even the countries that are hesitant to join the US sanctions will immediately toe the US line.
2. Guerilla war would mean that US already destroyed the Iranian military and is now occupying it. Which also means that the Mulla regime has lost power and has either been killed or hiding. Why in the hell would the Mulla regime want to lose power in Iran.

This might be simple for some people that have lost the ability to think logically and just blindly follow what ever uncle sam says. The reality is never that simple.

Those waters belong to Iran, and that tanker is less than 20km away from Iran main land.
we are responsible for safety of Persian gulf and Oman sea.
Yankees must come back to their homes.

You guys may attach a limpet mine 4m above water line we tend to attach it under water or just above waterline .

And this time USA admitted they had an armed Reaper drone in area . and the damage is consistent with what missile like hellfire can do and more intrstingly the japanese operator claimed a flying object hit their ship and old generation of limpet mines didn't fly I admit I'm not aware how the newer generation work.

By the way our mines are more than 40kg for God sake how some guys stand on tip of his toes stretch out and detach the magnetic explosive device of the body of the ship and do it in a wavy sea while all his friend are standing behind him ?

I guess by watching too much Marvel and DC comics.

WTF?? Do you actually think the US and international community will bow to blackmail to 'stop attacking vessels'? What kind of precedent does that set? Every country that has some sort of sanctions can start playing a similar card.

And how will the US attack become a 'guerilla war'? Are you expecting a US land invasion of Iran? :omghaha::omghaha:

.
Remember when USA attacked Iraq to remove Saddam Hussian? We all thought that Saddam is an evil man let USA remove him but that was mistake because we forgot the main reality who was the bigger evil that created Saddam? It was USA and we let Satan kill a small evil to look good but in reality it was less important to remove Saddam and more important to remove American deep state which is a bigger evil.
:disagree:

COLD WAR era geopolitics at a glance:-

USA -> Mohammad Reza Pahlavi in Iran
USSR -> Saddam Hussein in Iraq

US was responsible for bringing Shah to power in Iran (openly admitted), but had nothing to do with bringing Saddam to power in Iraq.

---

I try not to talk bad about the dead but Saddam was one of the worst leaders to surface in modern times, no ifs and buts. He was directly (and indirectly) responsible for the deaths of a huge number of Muslims within Iraq and outside.

Saddam hosted Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in Iraq to undermine Shah regime of Iran (Cold War era geopolitics) = Khomeini-led coup in a seemingly stable and prosperous Iran, and subsequent Iran-Iraq war (1980 - 1988).

Recommended: https://www.brookings.edu/blog/order-from-chaos/2019/01/24/what-irans-revolution-meant-for-iraq/

Saddam ordered invasion of Kuwait in 1990 = KSA panicked and invited NATO to rollback this annexation attempt (Persian Gulf War, 1991), and Al-Qaeda Network reared its ugly head under the leadership of Osama Bin Laden to use American presence in KSA as the basis to justify its terrorist regime and acts around the world.

Saddam's decisions had far-reaching implications for the Islamic bloc at large, a stark reminder of how low Islamic bloc have suck and the kind of leaders it is producing in modern times.

Now we have Trump is he a good person or evil person? Can anyone tell me and is Rohani more evil or Trump more evil?
That is the actual comparison here?

The issue is let's help USA remove Iranian mullah okay but we idiots need to think who are we going to replace these mullahs with?

USA? Lol sorry bro Iranian mullahs are much better than USA.
Trust me mullah in Iran have some dignity USA don't.
Donald Trump is not a warmongering POTUS, he is always willing to schedule talks with an opposing force to figure out a better way to address a chapter of crisis. His ring of advisers however....

Iranian Mullahs are much better than USA? You kidding, right?

I do not think it is easy to undermine Iranian Mullahs, they will set fire to many places in the process. Iranian Mullahs are spreading their ideological tentacles in every direction and raising proxy armies in the process. Sooner or later, these proxies will bite and undermine Islamic bloc even further. Situation is already bad in Yemen and Syria.

Time to wake up and strive for an objective understanding of emerging threats instead of clouding your judgement with prejudices.

---

Iraq have democracy now, much better than Saddam to say the least.

.
Seems like it.

No matter how much information/updates you provide to some people, they intentionally ignore it (prejudiced to the bone).
the thing is usa isn't a saint either and way more unreliable then iran and one cant ignore the israeli aspect as they are more desperate to start this war then arabs .

. .

I guess that is was a total fail on Your part then...
Any plans to improve?
