Altay & Turkish Main Battle Tank Programs

Because it is a good idea to have a lifetime maintanance of our tanks in a private firm.. and marketing it to the other states..

A tank will alive about maybe 40-50 years. let bmc keep them alive.

Otokar still owns 1 prototype Altay tank which they invested into with their own capital - they will likely receive contracts for Altay modified Bridge Laying and Minefield clearing vehicles soon.

This one for those you who don't know was allowed by SSM to stay with Otokar. PV Tanks are with the Land Forces not with BMC...

The bridge laying variant is not yet asked for, but the recovery variant

If i know Turkish army ; they transform the old leopard-1s to have bridge layer , battle-engineering and recovery vehicles.

Our friend dum should also explain why SSM has never announced the biddings in the tender how BMC won it. They also did not announce the production deal. How much will 250 tanks cost Turkey?

Our friend Dum is telling us that MSB is paying less money at the end of the day, really? How does he come to this conclusion when the deal is kept secret and nobody knows due to lack of transparancy?

Please stop this BMC vs Otokar argument. its not helping to anything . if you have questions or not happy with the decision then exercise your rights and send a letter to government under the right to information act

Our forum here is no different, some random internet dudes talking on subjects like they are the absolutely authority.....while having no info, no source, whatsoever.

Your dum friend is just another copycat mouthpiece.

Maybe we can weasel ourselves in. Altay would be a great alternative for Romania to Leopard but can they resist the pressure from the EU? I don't know. Also will they be willing to wait? That is another question but Altay+Akkor package would be perfect for them.

But most likely they will buy used Leopard 2A5/6 from other european countries.

Lets produce for our Armed force first.

This is the internet! We, the people of internet, use our bottoms as source and we all know the outcome will be stinky! I do not even ask for source anywhere anymore. :)

It is not exactly who produces it, but the quality and more the reliability in the long run (given issues confronted before); and the last company founded with int. participants just confirms the objection as a solid fact about the BMC.

Btw, It is not ethical to bring some page of a different forum into another(here) regardless of sharing the link, and equally to criticising a person who does not exist here to answer, @WebMaster i hope you do not let this again.

Altay MBT Will Have Three Variants

28.11.2018 11:04

Officials from Turkey's Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) have revealed details of the three variants to be produced for the Altay main battle tanks (MBTs) programme by local company BMC

British Magazine Jane’s learnt that the total contract, which was announced as signed on 9 November, is for 251 units of the Altay MBT in three variants. Of this number, 40 will be the T1 variant, which is similar to the four prototype models that have completed testing, and is scheduled to be in service with the Turkish armed forces in 2021.

The next 210 vehicles will be of the Altay T2 standard, featuring increased protection and improved situational awareness systems. The T2 variant is expected to begin deliveries shortly after the tranche of T1 standard tanks have been handed over.

A single T3 variant is to be built and will feature an unmanned turret with a bustle-mounted autoloader. This T3 variant, scheduled for qualification in 2024, is understood to be intended for further trials and technical evaluation rather than for service with the Turkish Armed Forces.

Turkey is also planning to procure 60 armoured recovery and 50 mine clearance variants of the Altay, which will be based on the T1 variant's chassis.

German companies MTU and Renk remain the preferred power pack providers for the Altay, with the same power pack used as on the four prototype models.

This could turn into a very good long term product for Turkish armed forces

Hugely benefiting local industry

If the guys at the top play their cards right work well
