What script does Languages in Pakistan use?

Are the languages similar? If you speak Urdu, can you understand much Persian?
To varying extent. Depending on His Urdu Skills. Much Of the words In Persian, Arabic, Turkish, Urdu, Punjabi are same. Grammer Varies a lot.

A better subtitute would have been Persian.. It was the lingua Franca of modern day Pak before 47.

I have always wondered why we never considered that :/. Our national poet wrote the vast majority of his works in Farsi and the language served as the lingua franca of the region for centuries. Even the court of Ranjit Singh in Lahore had Farsi as the court language, so it wasnt a language limited to one religious community, or an alien language to the region. My father tells me that his grandfather could speak Farsi fluently, as it was part and parcel of the education in Lahore in those days.

I believe one of your leaders/founders stated that they preferred Urdu to Persian because they wanted strong cultural ties with India to continue. This was when there was debate going on, on which language should Pakistan choose.

Language makes for cultural ties. If Pakistan had chosen Persian then, your cultural leanings would have been predominantly towards your west and India would have had zero cultural influence on Pakistan.

My father was taught Urdu and Persian Simultaneously, even before English was introduced. Even Most private schools still teach Persian and Arabic in rural Punjab.

Who would that be?

Are the languages similar? If you speak Urdu, can you understand much Persian?

Nope

But if you speak Urdu, you can understand Hindi

Wrong,

Anyone who can read urdu can read 100% persian.
Anyone who knows Urdu as in Urdu literature at Bachelor level will understand 60% or more Persian.
Most of the nouns, adjectives in urdu are borrowed either from persian or Arabic directly.

It is a common misconception in Hindu-stanis about Hindi language;

Who would that be?
I'm sorry, I don't remember.

I was reading about the discussions @Joe Shearer was having with some Pakistani members, @Oscar I think. And he posted these details - conversations and what was said by Pakistani leaders of old.

The gist was that Pakistani leaders said that they prefer Urdu to Persian so as to keep the bond between India and Pakistan alive and their shared history.

I am thankfully not part of these interminable discussions any more, and am all the more thankful when I read comments about the great dissimilarity of Urdu and Hindi. Very, very thankful.

They use Nastaliq.

Hindustani + More Persian words -Sanskrit words = Pure Urdu
Hindustani + More Sanskrit words - Persian words = Pure Hindi

But a common man in India speaks Hindustani, because of Bollywood influence. Pure Hindi speakers are very rare. Can't say about ground reality in Pakistan.

What script does Languages in Pakistan use?

Do all of them use Persian as script?
No not all use Persian script. Sindhi is written in the Arabic way i.e. Naskh while most other use Persian based nastaliq

But a common man in India speaks Hindustani, because of Bollywood influence.
Yeah, but unfortunately you can see a clear trend line.

A couple of decades back the common man's Hindustani included much more Urdu/Persian words than it does now. Same for Bollywood. A decade back, movies and songs included a LOT more Urdu words than they do nowadays.

Over the decades, use of Urdu in Bollywood is declining and being replaced by Hindi. It is mirroring society. Urdu is a dying language in India now. What a pity, it is a beautiful language.

Right, you can understand it but you wouldn't be able to read it, correct?
not in persian script.. but if written in nagari (Script for Hindi) or Roman ..one can read EASILY.

THAT'S is because of script they use.

Just a little difference..

Are the languages similar? If you speak Urdu, can you understand much Persian?
Yes if you know Urdu you can understand most of other languages i.e Punjabi Hindku pothwari saraiki etc but you won't be fluent

Thats why i hate urdu, i think we should have make hindko, Gilgati or any other non major language from Pakistan with their script as our National language..

Urdu is imposed on us by early Muhajir elite, its shame that we use a National language which is not our.
are you Hindku speaking???
