Why Pakistan Needs Language Laws

English is only taught as a foreign languag

Exactly.

At best they can have a class for English so clowns like MastanKhan and MaulaJatt don't have a breakdown.

That's literally all.

Having English as the medium of instruction for a country where nobody speaks English is the dumbest thing I've heard.

We don't need to modernise urdu or bring in new words for urdu unless they don't exist.

That's the point I'm saying. Many words don't exist in Urdu.

What's the Urdu word for vacuum? Or internet?

.
I think that the Pakistani civil service only recruit from the English priest run schools.

The system is called 'bias'.

The reason why English is maintained is to give these people an advantage over others.

Probably, the mughal rulers promoted Persian because they were proud and honourable people, whilst the current rulers are becoming brown sahibs and are proud. One fact is all the ruling elite speak English and follow their culture.

mirpuri or urdu they are not bad languages to explain scientific explanation.

by promoting urdu you are pushing away foreign culture like english. We also should promote our poets, writers, scientist, physics, philosphers, book writers like iqbal.

I understand your point, but the last thing we want is urdu words being replaced by English words. Most of our politicians speak urdu with English words, in foreign countries they proudly speak English. The Chinese and Russians speak their own language.

That I completely disagree with and it makes Urdu sound so disgusting. Honestly the more English words they shove into Urdu, the more and more it sounds like "Hindi".

Like take for example Mall Road.

The Urdu translation should be سڑک مال
Instead we get مال روڈ ?

Tf?

Ofcourse, what's the point of making an independent state and then not following your own language and culture. Allama Iqbal mentions this, that we need to work to revive our civilisation, our art, culture, values, image, language, ethics.

In AJK it absolutely should.

Pahari language board needs to wake up.

People think there is a language called Mirpuri, its actually called Pahari or pothari language, its a dialect of Punjabi. At the moment the language is on the decline, people are using urdu words instead of the regional words. I am ok with it but just saying. The kashmiri language is called Gojri or Kashmiri, a few other languages are dialects of punjabi.

Before the British overtook, we had good education system. When will Pakistan implement our historical education system to revive our civilisation, our Maddrassas produced highly educated people, the maddrassas taught Maths, science, medicine, geography, Art, geometry, Theology, ethics, values, adab, Islamic sciences, history, seerah, aqaid etc. They produced people who had critical mindset, people with logic, not slaves. The same case with the Ottomans but all were destroyed or changed to enslave the people. Today we have no connection with our past and this is why we look at the British to follow, any new culture that arrives in Britain, it will slowly reach Pakistan.

Quote from online source.

The Mughals were the most educated ruling class of their age. The Muslim aristocracy, and the ulema and Sufis, the first by choice and the later too by profession and inclination kept learning constant and continuing even in the midst of arms and political unrest or fluctuation. Although the state had no separate department for education, liberal sums were granted for the establishment and maintenance of educational institutions and ample grants were reserved for the teachers and scholars of repute. These grants were supplemented by generous donations by the nobles and the rich. Schools, madrissas and patshala were founded in villages. There were one hundred thousand elementary schools in Bengal and Bihar alone — a school for every four hundred persons during the fourth decade of the nineteenth century. For higher education there were 1800 colleges in Bengal. Akbar well-advanced of his age, built a girls’ school at Fatehpur Sikri. This development was observed even at the twilight of the Mughal Empire by the English, and it reflects the keen interest the Mughal rulers had taken in the promotion of education.

As regards modern words, how did the English develop them?

When 'aircraft' or 'internet' came up, did they say, 'hold on, we have this word lying around for a thousand years, now we can finally use it?'

You use the existing vocabulary and amend it for a new application.

Good points but we have too many brown sahibs, and incompetent and useless educated class to make changes. The people in power couldn't care less, they want power and money, they will promote English just to please their masters. Believe me they give updates on what they're doing, all to get in their good books.
Hi,

there are no more "brown sahibs"---. They were there till Bhutto came into power---.

Before that in the 50's---we gave millions in loan to germany---then in early 60's we gave millions in loans to japan---.

Our industry was solid---our education system producing quality students---we were on path for success---and then Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto happened to pakistan---.

Our industry got nationalized---it got destroyed---our schools---colleges got nationalized---our education system got destroyed---incompetence took over---our foundations got destroyed---.

At the end of the day---the nation's character got destroyed---.

Seeking faults in having urdu as national language are just excuses by those who cannot comprehend the real issues---.

Plus they do not have the ability or the capability to understand and overcome the problem---.

Pakistan's problem is lawlessness in every form and function of life of a pakistani---you cure the problem---language would not be an issue---.

Persian was and is the only language that should have been made national language of Pakistan. By making Persian (Farsi) our national language we (Pakistan) would become a part of Central Asia culturally. Due to Urdu as a national language, big disaster Pakistan is still culturally a part of Indian Subcontinent..You are being influenced by Indian movies , their culture their language etc. Farsi was/is a much developed language (than Urdu) then and now. Their is great literature in Persian, It was the language on which Alana Iqbal , Mirza Ghalib and all Muslims were proud of.

The official English dictionary in England is always making up new words and adding them to their dictionary.

Most English words are developed them from their root languages Latin and Greek as well as adopting words from their NEIGHBOURING languages.

Urdu should be developing their words from its root languages Sanskrit and Persian as well as adopting from neighbouring languages if words don’t exist or cannot be made up.

For example

Aircraft comes from the Greek words “Aeros” and the Proto-Germanic word “kraft” which apparently means ”strength”.

In Urdu the word for airplane is ہوائی جہاز “Hawai Jahaz” which literally translates into “aerial ship”.

So new words can easily be made in Urdu. The problem is our Urdu Language Board is probably full of RT. COL. Chutiyas who have never even seen an Urdu dictionary in their lives.

Well that is why you need Language Department which keep evolving the language.

Here every new word based on new aspects keep adding to Kiswahili and it then gets adopted across many countries.

If we can do it for Kiswahili which is similar history to Urdu - you can but the biggest issue I see. Inferiority complex - both with Hindi and English. Let us forget India - there is worse - Hinglish or Chinglish in HK.

Here is the our idarah: Baraza la Kiswahili la Taifa

The responsibilities of the Council as stipulated In the Act are as follows

  1. To promote the development and usage of Kiswahili throughout the United Republic of Tanzania
  2. To cooperate with other bodies in the United Republic of Tanzania which are involved in the promotion of Kiswahili and endeavor to coordinate their activities
  3. To encourage the use of Kiswahili In official and public activities
  4. To encourage the achievement of high standards in the use of Kiswahili language and to discourage its misuse
  5. To cooperate with the authorities concerned in approving Kiswahili translation of technical terms
  6. To publish a newspaper or magazine on Kiswahili language and literature
  7. To provide services to the Government, public organizations and individual authors writing in Kiswahili
  8. To cooperate with national organizations, international bodies or individuals in activities meant for the promotion of Kiswahili
  9. To cooperate with national organization and institutions in activities meant for the promotion of Kiswahili within the United Republic of Tanzania
  10. To inspect new books or manuscripts written or translated into Kiswahili and certify the authenticity of the language
  11. o cooperate with publishers and writers for the correct use of Kiswahili
  12. To initiate Kiswahili writing competitions
  13. To cooperate with the Ministry of National Education in approving Kiswahili textbooks written for educational purposes before they are published
