The late Qing and KMT didn't dare to defend China's sovereignty, it doesn't mean that CPC won't.

It had limited relations with courage. Both late Qing and KMT had huge courage to protect China's sovereignty. They just lacked ability, Qing used simple guns and sword to fight against guns and artillery, KMT used guns to fight against tanks and aircraft bombers. In the first place, especially Qing empire gave up the boast, keep calm and learned British advanced technology, the result could be totally different. Although in 1960's huge gap was between China and USSR, China had already had nuclear weapons to deter enemy's dangerous military adventure.
