You are correct. In 1970's, Vietnam leaders thought the way too. Kinh people are heroes. Vietnam would have been a great country, if Vietnamese leader mainly Lê Duẩn, didn't make a terrible wrong decision. After defeat France getting independence, defeat America getting unification, the situation was so great. Your country had set up the authority at least in South East region, then started to recover agriculture, develop industry and economy, can you imagine how is Vietnam nowadays? The aggressive policy and ally with USSR destroyed the fantastic conditions.

I know the Vietnam War was almost the most cruel one in human history. It need at least 100 years for Kinh to forget the pain. But within one year after the Vietnam war, your country got unification. If, I emphasize if your leaders started to recover economy and focus on economic development since 1976, the result would be totally different.

At that time, USSR supported Eghpt, Ethiopia, Angola, India govt and invaded Aghanistan, USA could only use every chance to support any anti-USSR's groups, provide money and weapons with Pakistan against India invasion, Ethiopia anti-govt group, Angola civil war. And China focus on South East Asia. All were for one target: USSR indirectly, though nowadays China and Russia's relation is good. History is history.

Hey bro I meant the hot war China fought with USSR in 1969 (7 months of undeclared military conflict in 1969, at Zhenbao Island), and that subsequently both sides militarily massively face-off each other i.e. cold-war (Mao was ready to enter a full-scale war including going nuclear, i.e. the well-known "早打，大打，打核战"), formally marking a Sino-Soviet split, till the collapse of USSR in 1991.

And during the Sino-Soviet cold-war, China invaded USSR's ally - Vietnam - in 1978. (typo, should be 17th February ~ 16th March, 1979)

Yes, today China and Russia is in good relationship, and it's also true that China and USSR were enemies 1969~1991.
