Today's Bulgars are Slavs, but originally Bulgars are presumed to be Turkic, or may be a mix of Turkic, Uralic may be even Iranic elements.

Volga Tatars are probably partly descended from Volga Bulgars

The same thing is recently claimed for some other southern slavs, like croats, and Serbians. It is claimed that they maybe come from Bacteria and Central Asia, and then emigrate to South east Europe. If this theory is true, then it can be assumed that they have common roots with turkics and iranics.

What is the evidence ?

I don't think so, they most likely came from somewhere south of Poland.

Turkey, Azerbaijan struggling for unity of Turkic world

Turkey reaffirms its support to Azerbaijan in the struggle with Armenia over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region and aims to find a peaceful resolution to the 20-year conflict, Turkey’s Parliament Speaker said at meeting with Azerbaijani President on Friday.

Cemil Cicek, Turkey’s Parliament Speaker spoke at a Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic Speaking Countries (TURKPA) Five Plenary Session, hosted by the National Assembly of Azerbaijan in Baku.

"In TURKPA, we never refrain from supporting the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and in support of concerted action against the Armenian occupation," said Cicek, adding that Turkey continues to struggle to find a peaceful solution to solve the dispute in Azerbaijan.

Efforts to reach a peaceful resolution to the conflict, which lasted 20 years, have so far failed and the two countries remain without diplomatic relations. Azerbaijan and Armenia, two former Soviet republics, fought a war over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh in the 1990s.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that countries that have common roots, need to form close ties with each other, and ultimately the major aim of all Turkic republics is the unity of the Turkic world.

Aliyev said, "There is no other country, except Turkey and Azerbaijan, struggling for the unity of the Turkic world," and added "We are one nation, two states."

Cicek spoke on the plight of the Crimean Tatars, "We will not recognize the de facto annexation attempt of Crimea. We will give importance to the security of Crimean Tatars."

Russia annexed Crimea on 21 March. Many Tatars felt insecure after the annexation, which stirred memories of their mass deportation in 1944 under Soviet leader Josef Stalin. The deportation in which around 250,000 Crimean Tatars - including women and children - were taken from their homes and forced to migrate to areas thousands of kilometers away from Crimea facing hunger and thirst on their way.

Aliyev also received committees from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan separately.

Turkic world considers adopting joint alphabet

The presidents of Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan will all be attending the 4th Turkish Council summit in Bodrum, Turkey.

The possibility of producing a joint alphabet to be shared between all Turkic states is due to be discussed at the Turkish Language Speaking Nations Cooperation Council at a summit held in Turkey's coastal city of Bodrum on Wednesday.

Turkic states currently using the Russian Cryllic alphabet are now said to be considering making the change to the Latin alphabet used in Turkey, General Secretary Halil Akinci told Al Jazeera Turk, but this change won't come before 2025.

When asked about Kazakhstan's signing up to the Russian-led Eurasian Union, as well as Kyrgyzstan's planned accession into the bloc in 2015, Akinci said that this would not have a negative affect on their relationship with Turkey.

'Neither the former Soviet states nor Turkey can lower the level of economic relations with Russia. In fact, they are working on strengthening it,' he said.

The presidents of Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan will all be attending the 4th Turkish Council summit.

Due to an agreement signed with the United Nations in 1996 to remain constantly neutral, Turkmenistan is unable to seek membership with the Turkish Council, but remains a key supporter of it.

The Turkmenistan president was also in Turkey to meet with Turkish president Abdullah Gul regarding a planned pipeline that could in the future allow Turkmenistani gas to be pumped acorss Turkey into Europe.

General Secretary Akinci also noted that the summit also hopes to boost tourism along the ancient Silk Road trade route that connects Turkey with the far-east via central Asia.

Found an old German biography of the Ahiska leader

i love how you place iranians in every theory of yours :D

that theory claims that some neolithic farmers travelled from west asia to europe during neolithic revolution. that would place the date circa 6000 BC and those farmers would have nothing to do with modern inhabitants of ME or CA. of course, as it always is nowadays, its completely based on genetic studies.

Its not me, there are such theories :D

yeah, those theories generally revolve around europeans' idea that sarmato-skythians are iranic and they contributed to every state out there. and at the same time they stay shy on akatzirs (who were definitely turkic according to marcellinus' and priscus' descriptions) who inhabited north and north-eastern parts of the black sea.

What is the evidence ?

I don't think so, they most likely came from somewhere south of Poland.

I read an article about a Bulgarian team sent to Iran and central Asia to find evidences. They say that there may be some linguistically or old traditions similarities. So far, nothing is proved or disproved. It's just talks and wild guesses.

Mate, I know what you are talking about, but it is not related to that. The neolithic revolution and immigrations after that, is a good theory, and J2 haplogroup in genetics is assigned to this people. What they are talking about is a emigration from central asia, which I think it should show R1a1 as its genetics marker. So far, nothing is proved or disproved yet ;)
