I would appreciate if some Indian members can guide me to some online way to send money to India. I live in America and need to some money to my cousin in India. I have his Indian bank name/address/account number.

Thanks!

Thanks, guys. Yes, bank to bank would be great. That's how I send money to Pakistan currently (via UBL New York) and it is quite reliable. Okay, I will ask him to send me the Swift Code. But if there another way, like Paypal, then please let me know.

Bank to bank wire transfer.. get the account number , swift code of bank and it will reach faster than u can think.

No- expensive...they will charge less transaction fees but will RIP u in exchange rate..try bank to bank --get SWIFT code from the recipient bank

I guess banks do that too.

Check the service fee and the exchange rate....then go with the one that gives you a better 'deal'

I once looked into Western Union to send money to Pakistan. Boy, that was expensive and so I did not pursue that.
I feel going using UBL NY to send to Pakistan: Helps Pakistan's foreign exchange situation, I think. Even for the recent Flood, I donated via UBL NY to the Prime Minister's Flood Relief Fund.

Great service.

And thanks again all!

Actually if you want to send money directly into that person's account then you need to send it through SWIFT.

You will need the beneficiary's account number, branch no, branch BIC8/BIC11 SWIFT code and your bank and the beneficiary bank must have an established relationship between them.

Just get their SWIFT code (ask the beneficiary to ask his bank) and provide your bank the beneficiary's details. The rest your bank and their bank will handle. Normally if there's no relationship its easy to get banks to establish one.

Thanks, Asim. I was hoping for everything online, if possible. You see, I have a Checking account with Wachovia and a remittance account (basically, just a login) with UBL NYC. So... if there are Indian banks would allow similar facility then that will work out fine.
He has so far given me the bank name: PUNJAB NATIONAL BANK
and the account number.

use remit2india.com HDFC bank or money2india.com ICICI bank. You get good exchange rate. It will take 4 business days to transfer. I use hdfc bank remit 2 india service.

I think the above two posts will get me started.
Thanks all!

I use money2india from icicibank. You just need the users bank address and account number. The exchange rate is quiet good and takes about 3-4 days.
