The China Navy Third Fleet Carrier Battle Group Named PLANS FUJIAN 福建舰 (CVBG-18) Officially Launched !

I am aware. The more I learn about the details of the ship's design and development process, the more I admire the project. As a navy aficionado, I believe this ship and 004 will have a very long place in future history books under the heading of balancing the sea hegemony of the USN. China has not just acquired a platform. It has successfully crossed a very important technical threshold.

You guys also have a good start with Anadolu, Kudos for both countries :tup: Let's break western monopoly in this field together

China originally planned to use Steam Catapults onboard CVBG-18.

But Thanks to the breakthrough back in 2017 made by Electromagnetic Naval Engineer, Rear Adm. Ma Weiming and his teams.

China’s Navy decided to skip Steam Catapults and goes directly to EMALS Catapult. Not only that, they also decided to skip unreliable & troublesome Alternating Current (MVAC) EMALS [like in the US ford class] and goes directly to more reliable & stable Direct Current (MVDC) EMALS [China’s Navy CVBG-18]

That’s why CVBG-18 undergo major redesign for almost 2 years (2017-2019) before starting construction again.

The launch platform is the most part of an AIRCRAFT CAREER ,it's a carrier of aircraft after all ,with sole purpose of launching fighter. And since China has superior EMALS ,and nothing pivotal as inferior,we can say type 003 is one of the best AC in the world right now or upon commissioning. An aircraft career with an unreliable launching mechanism is like a hen that can't lay eggs as required.The lack of nuclear power generation limits operational area,but type 003 was always meant for operation in asia,for that it's sufficient.
Once type 004 becomes nuclear, it will be the undisputed best AC in the world.

The US carriers that use EM catapults are nuclear powered, meaning there is almost an unlimited amount of electrical power available and makes sense.Nuclear-powered Ford and Nimitz-class ships have much more free storage capacity so they can store more jet fuel, weapons, and so on. While the Chinese carrier is fossil fueled so it normally would have an excess amount of steam and therefore should use steam catapults instead. The EM cats require vast amounts of electricity, meaning you'll be stressing the boilers to drive generators for electricity (losing efficiency) to use the cats. This will limit the sortie rates and cause more frequent fuel replenishment (thus limiting range or station time). This carrier is far from being operational anytime soon. The Chinese do have experience with carrier operations they have been for the past 10 years. But going from a ramp style to a catapult launch system is a very large step and one they are not familiar with.
US navy has been using catapult launch for decades and are the best in the world in carrier operations. Not just in ship board operations but also in aviation operations. China's propulsion technology is still several generations behind. Still using steam turbines when a lot of newer ships are going IEP and older generations of ships using gas turbines

And for China's Navy CVBG-18 they indeed use IEPS to compensate their Conventional power

China will have at least 10 aircraft carriers in the future

No need for that many, 6 to 8 would be more reasonable. I actually want China to maintain a smaller navy than US, but update our equipment at a faster rate.

US needs the carriers to project power throughout the globe. For China, it's limited to Taiwan, South China Sea and shipping lanes in Indian Ocean

Honestly, China targeting to more than 10 Fleet Carriers for long term (2035-2040). Because, Chinese interests is growing in all over the world. And they need to keep that Sea Lanes secure from threats (Conventional & Unconventional).


But Fleet Carriers (Like CVG-16, CVBG-17, CVBG-18, and so on.....) only move to the hot spot location if needed.
For Patrolling and maintaining presence purpose, they will use Type 076 Medium Carrier & Type 075 LHD that more cost efficent to operate.

Indian trying to teach Chinese how to run EMALS and IEP ? Get their first "supposedly" indigenously designed and made aircraft carrier running first, it has been 20 years now. Haha !
