Smriti Irani Stops 70,000 Students of KV From Learning German, Makes them Switch to Sanskrit

Even the modern Kannada is very much similar to Tamil after Malayalam...
The same Malayalam was once a chera dialect of ancient Tamil.....

They are of the same family, of course they will have similarities. Who is arguing otherwise?

nobody is stopping anybody from learning sanskrit but it should not be at the cost of learning another important language ..
they should teach 3 languages..
1. mother language (mandatory)
2. English(mandatory)
3. sanskrit/hindi/urdu/spanish/german/chinese/japanese (you are allowed to choose among the ones school offers)

I dont understand the sanskrit vs german debate.. both are 3rd level language for me .. a student should be allowed to choose which one he/she wants depending on what the school offers.

we used to learn german, and two other languages in school, here in germany. min 3 languages we should know and in the university, also it is mandatory to learn one language. People take chinese or arabic.

next step is to ban the 'foreign' language English.. and ask every Indian to speak hindi..

I never understand the benefit of learning Sanskrit in today's world.. HRD ministry should have been practical in this matter..

yeah.. thats a good scheme...
germans can pick up English.. crazy fast... compared to spaniards or frenchies... or italians..

its motivated by her ideology... not wellbeing of children..
we had such regressive steps in 70s and 80s removing English from education by the 'great socialists'..
students of such states have poor English skills.. but the children of the great socialists are quite good in it.. because they all studied in English medium schools..

english is the second language and french or spanish or italian is the 3rd choice. But in university, they opt completely for out of continent

I would have done the same..
language broadens your horizons.. things you never thought of or imagined.. you can find in new cultures..
and its best to choose a culture/language that is different from your tradition, if you want to broaden your horizon.

Instead of feeling proud that germans learning sanskrit .. we should learn other foreign language .. like arabic.. or chinese.

exactly and that is one reasons why europeans have ruled. because they learn at least 3 foreign languages.

Not as simple, why do people learn Latin?
latin is optional in most countries...
besides I was questioning her motive.. not saying learning sanskrit is wrong as such.. am sure some will find it useful, but it should not be mandatory, should be part of choices given to kids.

English is the sweet sounding version of rustic sounding German.:rofl:

except the English... they got it easy... :coffee:
there has been many educationists here demanding more languages to be taught.. properly...

Sanskrit is taught in Hindi states for parity with three languages formula and there is no escaping from learning Sanskrit along with Hindi and English. This introduction of German looks a recent trend.

What is need of learning two foreign language. Others don't learn any foreign language, here we are desperate to teach two languages to Indian kids. BTW Sanskrit is there for keeping three languages system in school curriculum in Hindi majority states.
