Featured Pakistan Navy Type 054AP Frigates - Update, News & Discussion

Totally make sense ... jinnah or follow ups of babar make much more sense...
Chinese vessels can only be inducted if need fill numbers quickly

The time for "filling numbers quickly" is now. 5 years from now we will have Babur in inventory while we will be ready to roll out Jinah a year after that. But currently we need more ships. If not 4 more Type 054, we should have atleast went for 2 more. After fulfillment of our 4 Type 054A order, the Chinese will close the production line. These are the last one to be produced if we don't order more. 2 years post closure of production line you won't be able to order more type 054A to "fill the number". But than I know we will have less money to spend on Babur and Jinah. It's a risky diploma.

If Jinah class is really the same design as is the model show during Turkish defencce exhibition then Jinah class is one big disappointment. I would prefer a slightly modified Type 54 A which carries newly shown 32 Universal VLS system then this Jinah class.

We have discussed many types of models here and the true thing was always Different than the models. So let's not take much stress due to it and wait to see the end product.

Type 054AP is a rather poor and dated design, 4200 ton ship but has less space for weaponry than the Babur class. Even the model of the Jinnah is better.

Plus, given how the Babur class went, the final product of the Jinnah won’t be the same as the model anyways. We still don’t know the Baburs actual configuration even after seeing a dozen models and posters for it.

Firstly it appears that Babur is the modified MILGEM with a 16 cell VLS (closer to to the I-class frigate (2,926t vs 3000t). If the news regarding the Albatross NG system is true regarding PN, then the Baburs will be far superior in terms of air defense, compared to the Type 054A/P. With the right launcher (Sylver A50) the Baburs could quad-pack CAMM-ER allowing for up to 64 SAMs. They could in turn utilized 8 cells for 32 SAMs and 8 cells for ASROC like CY-5.

JINNAH class being a modified Babur, is likely to be larger, close to Type 054A size at 4000t giving more flexibility in weapons load out.

With that said, if we are talking additional Tyoe 054A/P it would make little sense for Pakistan to build them itself. Firstly, PN's own personal, in house project will be Jinnah (which i see as potential F-22p replacements). I think it would make little sense for PN to work on building both Jinnah and constructing more 054A/P when the Jinna will likely be superior in most ways. That means if additional 054A/P are acquired, they are being done on an urgent basis to fill gaps in capabilities. This would suggest that China would be faster and better equipped to build them and get them into service. Even better/faster/cheaper would be to buy used 054A and have them refit to A/P equipment to allow for less expense as their own replacements start to come online (who knows but there may be a future 054B which we know as the 057 class as well).

Wouldnt it serve us better in the long run to manufacture them in Pakistan? That way we can get the skills and expertise as well as better assembly lines to improve our ship building ability?

Hi,

Time is of utmost importance.

Chinese Speed is superb , option(s) on Type054 would be done on time
Considering Indian , submarine intrusion done in Pakistani Waters we need to send a strong message

This is the third Pakistan Navy warship to hold the name PNS Tughril after an O-Class Destroyer (1951) and a Gearing-Class Destroyer (1980). The Tughril Class are Pakistan-specific, upgraded variants of the Type 054A FFGs, state-of-the-art major surface combatant warships, the
