“The whole world is screaming against Islamic terrorism, and even India is not safe from it,” said Vishnu Gupta, founder of the Hindu Sena nationalist group. “Only Donald Trump can save humanity.”

The Hindu Sena members gathered at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar along with a collection of idols of Hindu gods including Shiva and Hanuman — as well as photos of a shouting Trump.

Right-wing Hindu Sena asks gods to help Donald Trump win US election

NEW DELHI: Around a dozen members of the right-wing Hindu Sena lit a ritual fire and chanted mantras asking the Hindu gods to help Donald Trump win this year's US presidential election.

While Trump has dominated the Republican primary race to decide the party's candidate for the November election, his calls for temporarily banning Muslims from America and cracking down on terrorist groups abroad have earned him some fans in faraway India.

On Wednesday, members of the Hindu Sena nationalist group gathered on a blanket spread out in a New Delhi protest park along with a collection of statues depicting gods including Shiva and Hanuman as well as color photos of a shouting Trump.

The group chanted Sanskrit prayers asking the gods to favour Trump in the election.

To save the world from the scourge of Islamic terror, the Hindu Sena held a “fire ritual” for American presidential candidate Donald Trump on Wednesday. “Donald Trump zindabad,” chanted the small crowd of the faithful who had gathered at Jantar Mantar in the scorching Delhi afternoon. “Donald Trump aayega, Islamic aatankvaad khatam hoga," they added. Donald Trump will come, Islamic terror will end.

A picture of Hanuman held centre stage. Looming above him was a poster that featured a smirking Donald Trump and Hindu Sena president Vishnu Gupta. Other Hindu Sena activists fondly held up posters that declared “We love Trump." A fire was lit, libations poured in and Hanuman devta pressed into service to remove all political obstacles standing in the way of Trump becoming president.

Donald Trump was the man with the “brave heart” who could fight the “evil” of Islamic terror, said the Sena in a press release. Everyone of Indian origin living the United States was advised to vote for him; it was for the good of humanity.

The Hindu Sena

The Hindu Sena, founded by Gupta in 2011, has previously distinguished itself in acts of vandalism and assault. Over the years, it has done its bit to fight terror.

It shot to fame in August 2013, when Gupta and another protesterslappedSyed Abdul Karim Tunda, who was then on trial for allegedly making bombs for the Lashkar-e-Taiba, outside the Patiala House Court in Delhi. Tunda has since beenclearedof all charges. In January 2014, itattackedthe Aam Aadmi Party’s office, soon after party member Prashant Bhushan said the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act should be lifted from Jammu and Kashmir as it gave the army immunity in several cases of human rights violation.

Beef-eating is another issue that the Hindu Sena takes seriously. Only last year, members of the group sprayed ink on J&K legislator Engineer Rashid for throwing a beef-party in protest against the government’s beef ban. It then shifted the fight to Kerala Bhavan, callingthe police to warn them about beef being served in the canteen. Gupta was subsequently arrested for making a false complaint.

Recently, the Hindu Sena seems to have changed its methods. Last month, itorganiseda Ram Navami prayer at Jawaharlal Nehru University to “purify the varsity”, still reeling from the “anti-national” slogans chanted on the premises. The hawan for Trump is in keeping with this trend. “We have successfully organised this ritual with peaceful manner,” the press release points out.

Trump the protector

“Donald Trump will break the back of Islamic terror,” said Gupta. “Bombs are falling everywhere, in Iran, Iraq. Even India is suffering from Islamic terror.” He hoped Trump would make India his first port of call after becoming president and that his fight against terror would begin with the neighbouring country, Pakistan.

“Azhar [Masood Azhar, leader of the terror outfit, Jaish-e-Mohammad], Dawood [Ibrahim, founder of the crime syndicate, D-Company] are in Pakistan,” he said. “He should ban them. He should go after them the way they went after [Osama bin] Laden in Pakistan.”

Trump could reach places that Prime Minister Narendra Modi could not, Gupta explained. He could go into Syria, Pakistan, Iran, since he would have influence all over the world. Gupta said he found the Republican candidate’s speeches heartening, especially the bit where Trump had promised to ban Islam from America.

Gupta also supported Trump’s proposed policy of turning back Syrian migrants fleeing war. “If they are suffering, they should go back to their homes,” he said. As for Trump’s plan to build a wall across the border to stave off Mexican migrants, Gupta felt it could be replicated to keep Bangladeshi migrants out of India.

“Even after 9/11 happened, no one spoke out,” said Gupta. “Donald Trump has spoken the people’s mind.” Gupta is not alone in voicing these sentiments. William Johnson, face of the American Freedom Party and one of the country’s leading white nationalists, would also agree. “[Trump] is allowing us to talk about things we’ve not able to talk about,” hesaid. “I just hope to show how I can be mainstream and have these views.”

For a brief moment, Johnson was selected to be a California delegate at the Republican national convention. Trump’s campaign later reneged on this decision, saying it had been been caused by a “database error”.

Stay in India

Gupta was more hazy about other aspects of Trump’s campaign, such as the Republican leader'sfamedmisogyny and his salty comments about women. “I don’t know what he said about women, I will have to look it up," admitted Gupta. "The main issue here is terror. We don’t want to comment about his personal matters or what he does in his own country.”

He also seemed unaware of Trump’s tirades against manufacturing jobs being stolen and countries like China, Japan and India making money out of America. “Every country looks after its own interests when it comes to its economic policy,” said Gupta. “I don’t have a problem if he is looking out for his country’s needs.”

On Trump’s proposed tightening of immigration norms, which would affect Indians as well, Gupta had more positive views. “He has said that Indian students should not be thrown out of the US,” Gupta said. “Besides, why do they have to go abroad, just for the sake of the money? They should stay in India and work.”

Someone pointed out that there weren’t enough jobs in India. “That is Modi’s job,” Gupta retorted, “to create jobs in India.”

Trump As Lord Vishnu? How Hindus In America Are Campaigning For Donald Trump

Do you belong to the species of humans who have John Oliver's latest video that calls Donald Trump 'America's black mole' bookmarked? And you react to a piece of Trump news the way you usually react to quarrels inside the Big Boss house? If you are an Indian and consider Donald Trump nothing more than the best comic relief in your times, you will be surprised to know that everyone from your religious persuasion doesn't share your disregard for him.

A group of people in America, all Hindus, are fighting hard to ensure Trump becomes the next President to 'make America great again'. Going by the handle@USAHindus4Trump, they have started a hashtag called #HindusForTrump, explaining why they are supporting him.

Some of their reasons being:

The Hindus4Trump group has quite a creative (read strange) poster for the Republican presidential front-runner too. Here, Trump is seen sitting in a Yoga posture, on something that vaguely resembles a lotus with petals in colours of the American flag. Embossed on it is an 'Om' symbol.

Obviously, these intrepid 'Hindus' were not very worried about their revered deities - which include heavyweights likeBrahma and Vishnu,Saraswati and Lakshmi- having a meltdown over Trump taking their place in the display picture.

The group has aFacebook pagetoo, where they list out all the achievements of Trump.

In a blog post
, the Hindus4Trump group have also listed what they call 'evidence that USA Hindus are supporting Trump'.

"Sources estimate that there are between 1.5 million and 2.5 million Hindus living in the USA. But is there any evidence that this growing demographic is organizing to support Trump? Yes! And this support is coming from some of the most influential and widely respected names within the Hindu community,"reads the blog.

On January 21, 2016, four Indian Americans launched the political action committee (PAC) "Indian-Americans For Trump 2016". The group says that this is an evidence that 'Hindus' are supporting Trump.

The PAC is aimed at garnering support for Trump among the Indian American community, a majority of whom are Hindus.

“On realising that the agenda of Donald J Trump for President 2016 is focused on reviving the American economy, rightly bringing America on the world stage, defeating terrorism and establishing peace through strength; many Indian-Americans believe that he is the best hope for America and the right candidate to be the next president of the United States,” the PAC said in a statement.

A D Amar, a business professor with Seton Hall University in New Jersey is its president while New York-based attorney Anand Ahuja is its vice president. Amar believes that Trump is the best for the United States and Indian-Americans.

The reason? "Mr. Trump’s policies on illegal immigration and economy in particular are the main reasons for the Indian Americans to support him," he said.

The other members include Dr. Sudhir Parikh. Pathak is the owner of Parikh World Media, an umbrella corporation which houses news outlets reportedly "influential among Hindus" such asDesi Talk,The Indian AmericanandThe Gujrat Time. New Jersey businessman Devendra "Dave" Makkar is the treasurer.

According to the Hindus4Trump group, "the founders of "Indian-Americans For Trump 2016" are well known members of the American Hindu community".

The Hindus4Trump group also goes on to elaborate on how support for Trump has existed for very long now among Hindus in America.

"The world renowned and cross-sectional "Indian American Intellectuals Forum" (IAIF) endorsed Donald Trump for president back in August of 2015 in the release of their widely circulated "India World Geopolitics" print newspaper," it notes.

The blog further states:

"IAIF was founded by the late Narain Kataria, an almost universally respected man whose funeral was attended by hundreds in New York City. Kataria was a Hindu from Sindh Pakistan who was forced to flee his home after Pakistan became an Islamic State in the 1950's which sparked Muslim pogroms against Hindus and other minorities (Christians and Sikhs). Narain Kataria spent much of his retired years warning Americans about the dangers of Islamization and highlighting the plight of Hindus under Islamic rule in Pakistan and Bangladesh."

According to the blog, Kataria and his IAIF crew were part of the organising group which arranged Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Madison Square Garden in 2014.

Meanwhile, the Republican Hindu Coalition (RHC), has poured millions of dollars into the effort to elect GOP politicians.

The group’s founder, Shalabh Kumar, reportedly“is close to India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, [and] has relationships in the Republican Party dating back to the Reagan administration.”
