Any film that gets away easily the central board’s clearance still stumbles
upon at the doors of Tamil Nadu and John Abraham’s ‘Madras Cafe’ is the
latest to join the row left afresh by Kamal Haasan’s ‘Viswaroopam’.
The dictum “There is no avenue of politics that it does not enter” is by all
means true when it comes to Tamil Nadu and Tamil politics. Every party
tries to outshine the other to foray into the battle ground on some reason
or the other.
It is a tricky choice for any chief minister of Tamil Nadu where the
sentiments run high on Sri Lankan issue and the LTTE’s decimation in the
island. More than the state, now BJP at the national level has plunged into
filmy politics with Mumbai BJP units pledging to stop screening of the film
in the city. The current dictum will be: “There is no avenue of cinema that
it does turn controversial.”
Now that the Madras High Court has stopped the screening of the Tamil
version of ‘Madras Cafe’ without permission from the Film Certification
Board, owing to its political overtones about the plight of Tamils in Sri
Lanka .
Directed by Shoojit Sircar, the film stars John Abraham, Nargis Fakhri and
Rashi Khanna. Whether the controversy makes the film popular and save
its advertising budget is an old fashion business but the new business
mantra is to release in as many screens as possible on the same day and
make mullah in the first week itself.
Any delay might make and unmake the producers rich or poor overnight
and extend their debt trap longer, as it happened in the case of Kamal
Haasan and the producer of recent Tamil film ‘Thalaivaa.
The film ‘Madras Cafe’ portrays the Sri Lankan civil war and brings back
the events related to Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination, but may harm the Tamil
sentiments. Sircar told IANS that the film’s story is not a biopic on Rajiv
Gandhi. “Yes, you can say that there is a similarity to that incident. There is
a similarity in the facial structure.”

Right decision by the Madras H C, this is an anti Tamil movie , a proof that Indians are anti Tamils. This movie will set the momentum for Tamilnadu to be free from Indian occupation. Thank you Bollywood, for helping to rekindle Tamil nationalism.
