Yes, but in multiple countries. Japan's total automobile output (all brands, national and foreign ones included) is more like between 8 to 9 million units a year.

Time for Iran's biggest automaker to unveil its EV bus for mass transit.
  • Named "e-Atros" and developed under a major IKCO business strategy
  • The bus uses the highest-capacity batteries ever developed inside of Iran — with a power of 350 kilowatt hours. With every battery charging, e-Atros will be able to travel 250 kilometers.
  • It has an engine power of 475 horsepower and a total torque of 3500 Newton meters.
  • The vehicle will be introduced to Iran’s civil transportation fleet next year.

In the Pakistani market, many cost-effective Iranian products are available mainly in Karachi and Quetta, no idea if these are legally imported items or smuggled ones.
Are there any EV kits for converting Suzuki Alto/Honda Civic/Toyota Corolla? It will help Pakistanis in this challenging time of increased fuel prices.

My understanding is that we have 3 class of engines in Iran used for civilian cars.

EF-7 basically designed to work with CNG, assissted by Germans. It is mostly used in Samand family.

XU family and its derivatives used in Peugeots of IKCO mainly designed by the French.

X100 engine and derivatives/upgrades used in Pride, Tiba, Shahin, Quik, Saina, etc. This engine has European-Korean DNA.

Other engines are all derivatives of these foreign engine one way or an other.

The goodness of all this is that Iranian car industry is completely capable of producing components of these engines locally. The badness is that none of them is basically designed and manufactured/masterminded by Iranians. That's because We have a piece of shit in car industry called میرسلیم and his کارگزاران collegues. This guy still believes in Qajar era policies of depending on others.

As far as I know MAPNA develops EV kits for the SUV trucks..page 41 of this thread...do not know about models you mentioned..but it makes a lot of sense to have EV vehicles in Pakistan due to gas prices..conversion will be even more popular if a some business people invest in a plant to do it...
