Indus Nationalism and Scripts

.
A native script would be better, to promote national identity.
Makes sense. And your posts are a delight to read. Full of solid info and well researched. I always make a point of reading them.

I am working on the revival of the Kharosthi script, it is a significantly easier script to learn than the Arabic script and represents the various sounds and accents of our region much better.

So far, I have created a keyboard for Kharosthi and I am working on a draft for "Modern Kharosthi".

I am also compiling a list of Gandhari vocabulary words that can be introduced to our native languages.

Really impressive. Wish you the best. I take incredibly enjoyment out of our people connecting with our glorious past.

our people
And when I say 'our people' I don't fcukin mean all of South Asia [region bigger then Europe, with twice more people and thrice the diversity] or 'Muslims' which covers 1/4 of the globe. I mean the people of the Indus.

.
the roman script would be the worst choice for the urdu language. a very prominent case of roman script messing up with a language is english whose spellings many times dont make an ounce of sense, english language should have kept its native runes which is said to have better represented the phonetics of the language.

secondly i disagree with the notion of ''perso arabic script. the script is arabic with only persian influence of its fonts, sindhi arabic script doesnt even have the ''persian'' influence to begin with.

The Arabic script ( or whatever you call it) is matured enough and it is here to stay. Why want to make things more complicated ? Indus nationalism will only stay at the laptops of affluent Pakistani households without any kind of broader acceptance in the larger Pakistani society. Pakistan was not created on Indus nationalism but as a Muslim homeland. It will remain so.

.
What is it with you Hindus and your obsession with "indigenous"?

The internet isn't indigenous to India, please get off it.

I for one am supper happy with the script we have. Its so much more elegant then that Aboriginal script that India uses.

Fundamentally, the prime purpose of all such threads appears to be creating confusion and division in an already substantially confused and divided society and state. It also provides for some sort of intellectual self gratification and indulgence.

What is it with you Hindus and your obsession with "indigenous"?

It is a very subtle way to subterfuge and destruct the fundamental idea, on which Pakistan was founded and established. Of course, this was and would remain a basic objective of the elite Hindus, in respect of Pakistan.

Very true.
Unfortunately for them, fairy tales of "indigenous" will only go so far.
And no one, outside academics, have any interest in that Indian monkey script.

In Punjabi, we say:
"Mootar wichon machhian taulna"
To grope for fish in piss pond
:lol::lol::lol:

Those who don't know how to read Arabic script are in favor of Roman script.

Sad they can't even read Quran properly.

But learning ancient script of the region (or any script) is not bad at all. Arabic script will not go away from sub continent. It is one thing connecting the Muslims of South Asia. A South Indian Muslim who can read Quran (and believe me they learn Quran like most of us Pakistanis) can read Urdu with little effort. A Pakistani child who hasn't gone to a school, but has learnt reading Quran (most Pakistanis do) can read Urdu with very little help.

To completely replace Arabic script with something else will require removing Quran from Pakistani homes. Is it possible? Yes.. when hell freezes.

.
All is well but if anything we need Roman script adopted. Just like we use on PDF. Life would be so easier. Works for Turks, Azerbaijhani's, Turkmen, Uzbek, Malaysia, Indonesia etc

Arabic script should just be used for Quran that's it, adopt Latin script for Urdu and rename it to Pakistani. Local languages should adopt Latin scripts too. It would be easier to educate all Pakistanis with a international script and would make it easier to connect to Central Asian countries, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Europe.

Why are you so concerned about South Asia? This is nothing but a tool to include India in the frame. Are you of Indian origin? Who gives a flying frigg about Indian [south/north/Muslim/christians etc]. And do you harbour some desire for restablishment of the Raj so you can have your 'South Asia' as a single unit.

Why not??
If the entire South Asia comes under our rule as it was before 18th century.. I am for it.

"South Asia" was never under our rule, we were not the Mughals.

Each ethnic group of Pakistan has a major historic figure famed for fighting and resisting the Mughals; examples include Shah Inayat Shaheed, Khushal Khattak, Abdullah Bhatti and any more.

Besides some major cities such as Lahore, the Mughals did not have much control over the rest of modern-day Pakistan which was generally left to autonomous Kingdoms and tribes that sought out independence the first opportunity they got, an example being Sindh.

To our ancestors, the Mughals were only another occupation force. Reverence of the Mughals as some "past Islamic utopia" is recent and has it's origins in the rise of Muslim Nationalism in the 19th century.

will the upcoming war be remembered as Indurani vs Gangurani wars of the Mahabhrata?

.
Who have the people of raging Indus sided with?

US or Iran?

Where did that illegal Bengladeshi go after making the thread?
