Pfft, Erdogan is basically the Turkish version of Egypt's Mohamed Morsi, Tunisia's Rached Ghannouchi and Sudan's Omar al-Bashir. All of them answer to their Muslim Brotherhood overlords lol. Without Qatar's billions, none of this would've been possible and Turkey might have still been ruled by sane people.

Erdogan was certainly a good administrator and implemented good economic policy but should have retired with dignity and grace after his first decade as PM. Instead he's become a power-crazed looney who's jeopardized the fate of his country - and countrymen, tarnished Turkey's international image and single-handedly destroyed the fabric of a country that embodied the best of the East and West. From a man who was once Merkel's equal and who was invited to EU capitals for consultation he's now reduced to yelling for schools run by his opponent to be closed in Pakistan - of all places. If anything was more unthinkable than Trump's victory it's what Erdogan has managed to do in the last five years.

Democracy is very fragile in this part of the world because it can easily and quickly turn into mob rule. That's exactly what's happening in Erdogan's Turkey. It's true that half of the Turks probably want him, but the sad thing is that they do not appreciate that giving too much power to one person will eventually backfire on them and on their country. The moment they find this out, it'll be too little too late I'm afraid.

Anyway, my point was that Erdogan is a student of the Muslim Brotherhood movement. If Turkish society is prepared to embrace Islamic rule, then I wish it the best of luck.

By the time any rescue would have come from Qatar, President Erdogan was already on CNN Turk calling his supporters to take the streets.
