BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:30 P.M.) – In an article by the Russian publication “Komsomolskaya Pravda,” the author wrote about why Egypt purchased Russian jets instead of the U.S.-made fighters.

According to the author, “our Su-35 has won the largest export order in its history. This time, Egypt wants to buy 26 such fighters.”

He would continue that this is the largest single batch of this model required (five years ago, China bought 24 aircraft).

Regarding this deal, the United States has threatened Egypt with sanctions and abandoned military-technical cooperation with it, and even Donald Trump has issued an ultimatum to Cairo.

However, this did not deter Cairo. The main reason for buying these fighters is that they can outperform the Israeli and American-made F-15 and F-16 model jets.

According to the author, the Su-35 can travel great distances without refueling. But the Israeli fighter F-15 and F-16 could not boast any of that. The Su-35 is a heavy fighter 4+ (almost fifth-generation), and has excellent radar and powerful weapons.

Thus, by purchasing the Russian Su-35, Cairo intends to get rid of the old French-made Mirage 5 planes. In addition, the Egyptian Air Force fleet mainly consists of recycled American F-16 fighters. The Su-35 has an advanced information management system and a radar station with an Irbis antenna, motors with a plasma ignition system and other advanced technical specifications.

What does Moscow benefit from this deal?

1. Russia is working to strengthen its political, economic, and military technical positions in Egypt. In this region of strategic importance as a whole;

2. The sale of aircraft includes the provision of “technical service” for many years, by the Russians, which certainly contributes to the development of friendly relations between Cairo and Moscow;

3. The deal enhances the reputation and competitiveness of Russian weapons on the international market;

4. The Egyptian demand guarantees the complete operation of the Komsomolsk plant on matters for the next several years, stable jobs and serious profits for the company.

How work that out?

Are they comparing egyption F-16 which I don't think have BVR. Where did they evaluate F-15?

All on paper?

Lol.

Anyway, Egypt has gone back to its old ally and friend, and if they offer good weapons systems then why not.

Yep, and we don't really know if they offered the F-16 and F-15 with the AIM-120 or without it? If they were offering both with the same Sparrow missiles as the current F-16s in the EAFs inventory, it would be really silly considering the Russians aircraft come with the R-77, R-73 and possibly even the potent R-27. So why would the US offer the same old stuff, unless they did offer the AIM-120? But this Russian rep doesn't get into the details of that.

Its definitely outperforms on looks! And then there's the fact that uncle SAM is one unreliable, controlling and moody b*tch.

The Egyptian F-16s are very potent and it is not true that they don't have BVR missiles, the Sparrow was modernised and has a range of 70 km it is a medium range air-to-air missile ..The Sidewinder short range missiles are even made in Egypt..

It is the coming of the F-35 to Usrael that have changed the game rules..

Egypt requested F-35 from the Americans. Trump agreed, but the congress refused to keep the Israeli superiority in the region. They only can give it to nations that ever never can pose a threat to Israel. Egypt knew the answer before making the request, but it was a good chance and reason to justify the SU-35 purchase, and why not? SU-57 can very easily be the coming deal.

Like I said. Su-35 is used for air superiority. Rafale, MiG-29, F-16 are used for ground attack.
Mig-35 for interception..SU-35 for air supremacy, Rafale for deep strike, F-16 for ground attack.. and they are all multi-role aircrafts ..only the SU-35 has the air supremacy role as such..the others can perform air superiority as well.. and don't ever forget the Typhoon..:-)

Lets just hope they give them some good bvr

LOL! :lol:

The interesting question we can't seem to find an answer for is if the US, in its counter-offer with the latest F-16V and F-15 (whatever) if it also offered the AIM-120D and AIM-9X or not. If they didn't, it would be a real shame that they actually thought it might work? They should've known the primary issue is the missiles and the air superiority factor. The difficult part is finding out that detail doesn't seem to be available, only that they made the offer for those 2 models.
