Cyberabad police special parties, special operations team and zonal task forces are in for a major makeover. Not only they would be armed with the latest pistols and carbines when storming hideouts of criminals, the operations too would be executed with clock-work precision, thanks to sharpening of their combative skills under the aegis of OCTOPUS and greyhounds.
The death of a constable at Shamirpet in the attack by gang of fake currency operators in August and recent gunning down of two policemen at Suryapet by alleged Student’s Islamic Movement of India operatives at Suryapet hi-tech bus-stand in Nalgonda, made the top brass to review their training and preparedness of taking on offenders.
Cyberabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand felt it was high time special teams got tuned for better physical fitness to proper handling of modern firearms. Under the guidance of elite commando forces -OCTOPUS and Greyhounds- tackling terrorists and left-wing extremists respectively, specific modules were prepared for the special teams.
All special parties teams would be equipped with five pistols and two carbines along with helmets and bullet-proof jackets. These teams keep a watch on Maoist activities in the suburbs. Similar weapons would be given to SOTs commanded directly by the Commissioner and also ZTFs under the DCPs. The first batch of policemen from these three wings completed the module on Friday.
Tactics to be adopted during house intervention or raiding a den of criminals, handling modern gadgets such as Corner Shot Machine used to target the attackers, latest Colt machine guns to hit the targets in the dark using infra-red and laser lights, precautions before storming gangsters shelters were all taught. “To take on criminals wielding knives and firearms, it is imperative that our policemen are well-equipped and trained. Teams participating in special tasks would carry short weapons and Carbines hereafter,” explained Mr. C.V. Anand.
