A lot of people in Pakistan hold cricket dear to them but if I guess this could also be because of constant promotion of this by celebrities, media and politicians in Pakistan. Maybe this was once a decent sport but there are many disadvantages of this game
1) long hours (5 days, 10 hours and event the shortest format is about 4-5 hours) compared to other sports, loss of productivity
2) no mainstream appeal, participation by only about 10 countries in the world
3) too much influence on the international body by a single country because of its 1.4 billion population
4) corruption as reported many times (2 Aljazeera documentaries in 2018 shows a good insight)
Pakistan was once a champion in squash, hockey, and now these sports are pushed aside and the focus is always on circket. It's pathetic how Egyptians have taken over the squash scene while no Pakistani have come up in recent years (despite us dominating the Squash world for decades). Our hockey standards have gone down.
Its amazing how they are so upset about us discussing cricket in our country
