The Supreme Court on Tuesday struck down triple talaq terming it “unconstitutional". The constitutional bench, headed by the Chief Justice JS Khehar, delivered a spilt verdict (3:2) invalidating the practice as part of the Muslim Personal Law. The majority judgment came from three judges — Justice Rohinton Nariman, Justice Kurien Joseph and Justice UU Lalit. CJI JS Khehar and Justice S Abdul Nazeer write minority judgment.

• It's upto the parliament to legislate it now. Opposition parties would have wanted SC to take a final call but it didn't. Now BJP gains an upper hand and opposition parties would be damned if they support and damned if they don't.

the Indian court did the right thing. you cannot give three talak in one go which is common on the indian subcontinent. Once at the time of the prophet a man did this and prophet pbuh was furious saying are you mocking the religion of Allah. with each talak there is a waiting period so that if the hearts of the people concerned are softened with time they may make amends. Talak is hated by Allah but he allows it as it is sometime necessary.

The govt should bring the UCC immediately , its the only way we will progress as a society in general . All are equal in the eyes of god then why not the law?

In Pakistan triple talaq is banned since 1961 .

my dear neighbour....this three talak issue even happens in pakistan due to ignorance.
talak 1......waiting period
talak two waiting period
talak 3 ........game over

now if the two wish to reconcile the wife has to marry someone else and if he has difference with her and ever divorces her they can marry again. its not simple. on the indo subcontinent they get a boy to marry the divorced woman and he immediately divorces her. they are trying to fool God but this isn't allowed
