its all about individuals perception and motive.. when the glass is not full of a water..some people call it as glass is half empty whereas with positive attitude and good motive call it as glass is half full...

those who talk about number of poor in India, should know the basic maths....if they subtract those poor from total population of India, then it will come close to full population of africa...so India has more number of non-poors that the whole of Africa....

In terms of quantity, there are more poor people in India than Africa because India has a very high population. Most African countries on the other hand have relatively low levels of population.

I agree that there is grinding poverty over there, along with corruption. But this isn't only an Indian issue. It is also an issue of South Asia in general as well.

Thats one thing that everybody tends to forget when bashing India that India has more population than the entire African continent.

Why is this news now ?? Some Pakistani posters have even chosen title of this article as their signatures. We know that India is s populous country and there is lot of poverty in India. Nobody is denying that. The thread starter really has to come out of his rat hole and increase knowledge of world affairs

BBC---->British bushitting corporation(British Broadcasting Corporation)..

It's the Britisher who took our kohinoor diamond and alot of wealth to England from India. Now their news channel talking about poverty. Funny. I guess BBC is banned in Pakistan.

The figures for the "poor" aren't necessarily reflective of the state of poverty in a nation. Human development indicators of most types are lagging indicators; taking years before they are start reflecting the true state of a nation and it's economy and people.
If India maintains anywhere near the economic growth rate of the last decade, it will pretty soon start seeing relatively quick decline in poverty levels. What may drag out the process, maybe the capitalist tendencies of the new age Indian economy that provide a slower trickle down affect, albeit from a larger pie than restrictive socialism allows.
For India, the general trend is towards prosperity and it will be reflected at the lowest levels in time. Now that may not make a person starving at this very moment any less helpless, but the idea is that his/her children will have a prosperous future from the rapid advancement the nation has seen to date. The only thing India needs to worry about is regional economic growth, instead of an economy that relies on cities such as Mumbai, what the nation needs is growth at grassroots level. For that, infrastructure should be priority number one; this may already be the case, but I am not totally in-tune with Indian economic thought and couldn't know for sure. It is when the infrastructure is strengthened, will the nation see futuristic cities rise from the remains of backward villages...that is when the Indians can refer to themselves as a first world people.
The rate at which this happens is up to the people and the government; what is clear though is that the tools and potential are all there.

A year back news which is already posted coming alive again for the entertainment of known hate mongering retards.

Hats off to moderation @ pdf.

Don't think about moderation in pdf bro. it's waste of time.

I consider 1947- 1991 as lost time for India when we dabbled with self destructive socialist policies which finally bankrupted us. We pulled out more people out of poverty in the last 20 years than the first 40 years.

So, had BBC reported on Pakistan, it would have been authentic but since it's about India, you consider it BS.

India is making some progress in reducing poverty. And this article is from July, 2011.

India Makes Some Progress on Poverty

A new report by the United Nations suggests that India is making some progress in reducing poverty. The UN’s annual Millennium Development Report, which tracks the progress of the international organization’s long-term goals, shows India’s poverty rate is expected to fall to 22% by 2015 from 51% in 1990. This marks an improvement from last year’s projections, which forecast India’s poverty rate to drop to 24% by that year. The poverty rate is measured by assessing the number of people who live below $1.25 a day, a threshold set by the World Bank.

India’s improved performance has helped reduce poverty globally, the report shows. It estimates that by 2015 the number of people classified as living on less than that amount in developing countries will drop to less than 900 million from around 1.4 billion in 2005. Of these, the report expects around 320 million will be lifted from poverty in India and China.

Although the report praised India’s performance, when it comes to eradicating poverty it is still lagging behind China and other countries in East Asia, which have seen the sharpest reductions in poverty in recent years. While India’s poverty rate is likely to fall to about 22 % in 2015, China’s is projected to fall below 5 % by then, said the report.

The gap is striking, especially considering that in the early 1990s, the two countries had comparative poverty rates. But today, while in India there are presently around 650 million people or about 54 % of the population living below the poverty line, China has now less than 100 million people, or around 8 % of its citizens in the same income bracket, according to a 2010 Asian Development Bank report that sets the poverty bar at $2.

Poverty reduction is the central aim of the UN’s Millennium Development Goals, which also include achieving universal primary education, promoting gender equality and reducing child mortality.

The report was overall positive about meeting its poverty reduction target, aimed at halving the number of the world’s poor between 1990 and 2015: “Based on recently updated projections from the World Bank, the overall poverty rate is still expected to fall below 15 per cent by 2015, indicating that the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) target can be met.”

Sorry, India friends, very sad news :fie:

---------- Post added at 01:04 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:02 AM ----------

World Banks:

India is home to roughly one-third of all poor people in the world. It also has a higher proportion of its population living on less than $2 per day than even sub-Saharan Africa.
One-third of world's poor in India: Survey - Times Of India

many bad news

India has about 1/6th (16.6%) of the world's total population, & 1/3rd (33%) of the world's poor. India's land area is about 1/45th (2.2%) of the world's total land area.

Guys enough. Poverty is very high in all the places close to heart. Stop scoring cheap sh1t shots ats each others lands poverty. Its pathetically pathetic. I dont see the buzz anyone gets thinking someone is starving tonight. Just stop and have a little think. Pakistan and India will have kids tonight going hungry - stop the trolling. Sad thought. Lets pray we one day eradicate it EVERYWHERE.
The end.

101% agree - There are lot more topics to bash each other than making fun of poors.
