Altay & Turkish Main Battle Tank Programs

Because of what? You figh/strike a second class enemy which is totally broke and not able to defend on them self, because of 10 year civil war. You need MBTs.
TAF doesn’t really need MBTs(same applies to other armies as well light/heavy guided artillery MLRS are more than enough for close fire support

You mean TAF not TSK at all? MBTs are still needed, they are still the spearhead of artillery.

TAF is same as TSK(land air and navy) most likely you mean turkish land forces well I guess they would like to have MBTs but since there is indefinite ban by so called NATO ally(Germany) Turkey should scrap this tank project and focus on other more pressing projects

Well said, I think SAMs are a priority right now and continued focus on UAVs. Tanks should be developed further until there is a domestic engine, at which point you can produce unhindered. Continued upgrading of existing tanks is a better option for now. If you can upgrade a Leo to have similar capabilities as Altay then why rush to produce Altays, especially if there is no engine. Tanks needs to change anyway to meet current threats and Altay prototype was completed before any of Turkeys recent operations. The upgraded M60 has seen vast improvements due to recent battle experience. So I think it is best to continue these modifications to existing hardware rather than producing an expensive piece of kit that you won't want to make any modifications to because you have already spent a large sum on it.

I think adaptability is very important and improvising to meet changing day to day threats. You don't want to do this with a shiny new tank. At the same time all forms of tanks are sitting ducks in modern warfare with threats coming from everywhere. The bigger and slower tank is an easier target.

I believe it shows how weak Syrian army is at anti-aircraft warfare and generally how bad Russian air defense platforms are. Then again, Soviet Union & Russia have a history of inflating specs and failing miserably in the actual warfare. It would have been better if the US allowed Turkey to purchase a fleet of MQ-1 Predator and MQ-9 Reaper UAVs. It would have been interesting to see how they fare against Russian air defense system such as latest batch of Pantsir.

However, doesn't Turkey already operate like 350+ Leopard 2A4s? It sounds like they have enough MBTs to me.

They’re old and need modernization. I have seen ppl claim TB2 destroying tanks, but I only remember seeing apc, howitzers and pantsirs getting destroyed. Please post a video showing a tank being taken out.

I know about Turkish drone destroying Assad air defense units but till now hasnt seen any report saying any of their tank also get destroyed by Turkish drone. What I see on that twitter account is an IFV/APC get hit although the camera didnt capture further footage of the hit IFV/APC to see the actual damage.

But there is no footage of aftermath in these videos, just the moment of strike.

This is a grave assumption, brother. MAM-L may be able to penetrate T-54, T-62, T-72 and T-90 from above, but I doubt that the same is relevant when facing heavily armoured western tanks.

You are right but Turkey is developing new types of A2G missiles plus you can have thousands of PGMs(both turkish made and JDAM) that can be put on the new drones like Akinci/Aksungur
In the worst case TAF can use multiple MAM-L on one tank
Both Akinci and Aksungir will have power to carry more than 20+MAM-L/C and other variants(Akinci can reach 30 without problems I am talking about the specific situation where these big UCAVs are weaponised ONLY with MAM-L)
I can say that my arguments still stand from previous posts(tanks have no chance against UCAVs certainly not against those who have ~1 ton of weapons payload

You dont need to totally blow up the tank. Having been hit, if the damage causes its mission aborted, your mission is completed. Enjoy watching your enemies running away the base

The problem is that tanks don't roll alone. They always accompany some counter-air defense systems, helicopters and of course their own fleets of UCAVs. Against rebels and some under-equipped and under-trained army? Yes, it is effective. Against a well-fed, well-equipped, well-trained and highly skilled army? No.

You seem to have forgotten that The UAVs are used also for SEAD missions.

I have not. Exactly why I said tanks also accompany helicopters and UAVs. How could your UAVs effectively perform SEAD missions when your enemy's Stinger is targeting right at you. And of course, there are other enemy aircraft on the sky as well. They won't sit around and do nothing much as your UAVs, helicopters, fighter jets and other aircraft won't.

Why should Turkey buy US UAVs? Right now, they are using indigenous ones more ore less successful. They have a huge fleet with modern types of UAVs. So, I don’t understand why they should stop developing production and research and purchase US ones.

Yes, in numbers they have a huge fleet, but doubt in quality. We talk about a 40 years old tanks which does not work well in Syria. Not because of bad quality of Leopard tank, but the times has changed, and the old Leopard can no longer meet the requirements and challenges in the new battlegrounds.

One more thing, you can buy best of the shelf’s, but if you are not able to handle this modern equipment, it will always sucks.
