According to the Economist, India's development indicators are 40 years behind China's.

Comparing India and China: Chasing the dragon | The Economist

The lag in social progress is much longer. A child’s odds of surviving past their fifth birthday are as bad in India today as they were in China in the 1970s.

Indians know this themselves (even their own top economist Amartya Sen keeps saying it)... but every day I hear Indians claiming that India is better than China.

.
Comparing India to China is like comparing Pakistan to China. Neither Pakistan nor India has anything they do better than China. Comparing India to China is like comparing Pakistan to the West.

Bilal , neither were you born in China , and may be neither ur wife/girl friend is from China, neiter one of ur parent was born in China , neither U fly J-xx series palnes, nor U r contributing to the Chinese market , apart from buying household stuff , which WE buy more than pakistanis do , neither..... mate the list is endless.. China and Pakistanis are friend for a `reason` and we all know that reason.
So lets help make our respective countries better... and besides who doesnt want themselves to be doing better , U create a benchmark and as U go along you `tick` the objectives U have achieved and move along.. This is whats happening in teh globalised world.

.
Clearly, the West is using India and fake it in the public- "India will overtake Giant China." Why the West use India? Because India is a easy country and never fight back, it is sympathy by the West and more investing.

India and Pakistan are always competition and equal, accept it. ;)

Come on. You are saying this.. After getting beaten so many times in the wars i wonder how anybody can dare to mouth that out?

@topic - Is it the Indians who compares themselves with China or the leading world media outlets and financial institutions compares them? I guess those guys sitting in all those leading institutions need to take a lesson or two from our Pakistani economics champs jumping up and down on this thread.

.
Dear Bilal,
You always like to compare China with america, I have seen here how several pakistani members think about China as developed country, a superpower.
To your list I have added of pakistan, India, China I have added america to make a decent comparison which countries are close to each other.

But to shorten lets see,

GDP per capita:

Pakistan------India-------China------America

$1207-------$1400-------$4400------47,184

America has 10 times GDP of China, while China has 4 times of India

11) Human development index

Pakistan-------India----------China---------America (Rank)

145-------------134------------101-----------4

All three countries above 100, and america no 4 rank in world.

9) Multidimensional Poverty Index:

Pakistan--------India----------China-----------America

0.264----------0.283---------0.056----------n.a.

I think Bilal you are right China is right next to america

Actual poverty numbers ($2 per day)

Pakistan------------India----------China----------America

dont know 450 000 000 150 000 000 They get paid $10 per hour

Income Inequality Index:

Pakistan--------India----------China-----------America

0.346----------0.392---------0.534-------------0.771

Inflation:

Pakistan---------India----------China---------------America

11%------------9.39%----------4.2%-----------------3%

Unemployment:

Pakistan---------India----------China-----------America

5.95%-----------9.4%----------4.3%-------------8%

I know pakistan is lapdog of China (I never liked this word lapdog, but you know its chinese term for ally)., but still you think China is close to US, than India is close to China.

Maybe not, but his friends are right here in China.

And he is making an observation based on development indicators, which is a perfectly reasonable thing to do. Even the Economist did it in the article above.

But Chinese very well know that Indians will pose great problems for China for dominance in Asia. Now China is whining by saying India is envy of us, India is nothing before us. China don't want India as SCO member in fear that it will lose dominance in Central Asia. Because whenever Chinese look back they fear that India is coming right behind them. Your above comment also showing that fear.

Yes, buddy go and see the list of failed state index, freedom index and dangerous country on earth.

Failed state Index- Pakistan 12th
Freedom Index- Partially free, (not Free during Musharraf's era)
Second most dangerous country on earth (Maplecroft)
Karachi- Most ethnically tensed city in the world.

I don't know how many insurgents group Pakistanis think there are in India but India is not match the rankings what Pakistan is having right now.

Failed State Index is an opinion by a think tank in Washington DC, it has no real significance. It is not based on any factual evidence. Pakistan is an active member in the WOT & is in a state of war, as have been UK & Turkey in the past, when their cities were bombed everyday. There have been more casualties from terrorism in India from 1994-2005 than there have been in Pakistan in the WOT from 2001-2011. The FSI is also facing many criticisms:

The Failed States Index is subject to criticism, in part, because it takes institutions and data to draw its conclusions, as opposed to the Human Development Index or other more telling signs. The FSI is checked against human analysis.

allAfrica.com: Africa: What is a Failed State? Look Over Your Shoulder

At the end of the day, if you can't provide any factual evidence to support your claims based on solid data, the opinions of think tanks doesn't matter.

Your pakistani lapdog (chinese term for ally) loves to compare USA with China, do you any economist link comparing social progress in China and America. I am sure it will be interesting comparison with US at rank 4 and China above 100 just like India and pakistan.

Fear? Seriously?

There are seven recognized "great powers" in the world, and they are: the USA, Russia, China, Britain, France, Japan, Germany.

Great power - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And most importantly, China does not want or need to "dominate" any continent. Nor do we have the capability to do so.

Even at the height of our power during the old Chinese Dynasties, we did not go out and colonize other countries, or attempt to dominate any region of the world through force.

Despite all the mess Pakistan is facing these days and the economic boom india is seeing.. its interesting to see there is not much difference? i wonder what will happen when PAKISTAN gets out of the current mess....The title of Asian Tiger given to us in the 60 and onwards would be regained? Inshallah!

I know pakistan is lapdog of China (I never liked this word lapdog, but you know its chinese term for ally)., but still you think China is close to US, than India is close to China.

You seem to miss out a few categories there. Let me add them for you:

1) GDP per capita:

Pakistan------India-------China-----------USA

$1207-------$1400-------$4400-------$47,184

2) Current account balance:

Pakistan------------India----------------China--------------------------USA

$-1.85 billion----$-51.78 billion----$+305.4 billion----------$-470.2 billion

3) Inflation:

Pakistan---------India----------China-----------USA

11%------------9.39%----------4.2%----------3.5%

4) Unemployment:

Pakistan---------India----------China----------------USA

5.95%-----------9.4%----------4.3%----------------8.6%

5) Structure of economy (% of GDP by sector):

-----------Pakistan-----India-------China----------------USA

agriculture: 21.2%------19%-------10.2%---------------1.2%
--industry: 25.4%------26.3%----46.9%-------------22.2%
--services: 53.4%----54.7%----43.0%-------------------76.6%

6) Life expectancy at birth (years):

Pakistan-------India--------China--------USA

65.4----------65.4----------73.5---------78.5

7) Education Index (expected & mean years of schooling):

Pakistan-------India---------China----------USA

0.386---------0.45----------0.623---------0.939

8) Income Inequality Index:

Pakistan--------India----------China---------USA

0.346----------0.392---------0.534------0.771

9) Multidimensional Poverty Index:

Pakistan--------India----------China----------USA

0.264----------0.283---------0.056----------N/A

10) Gender Inequality Index:

Pakistan-------India---------China---------------USA

0.573---------0.617--------0.209--------------0.299

See, there are quite a lot of things China does better than the USA in.

.
You seem to miss out a few categories there. Let me add them for you:

.

Still the important things are per capita gdp and HDI.
In HDI whole of asia is far far behind.

Regarding poverty, what can I say China has 150 000 000 people living in abject poverty. That means A whole pakistan inside China is living under poverty. Can you imagine how many people?

Atleast in above three aspects it will take eons to china to catch USA, In that time pakistan will also catch China.
I am optimistic of not only India, but pakistan too has tremendous potential once the mess gets sorted out.

Pessimism is for losers
