What's new

Why does India compare itself with China?

Bhai, China is not 10-15 years ahead. Once you been to China, you will know China is at least 25 years ahead, it's not just the infrastructure, it's about governance, living standards, technology. i dare to say Chinese infrastructure is even better than developed nations. Living standards and governance, maybe 25 years behind the West.

It depends on which parts of India you've been to. Governance in China is uniform, in India it's not.

Secondly, infrastructure development in China is gradual, where supply meets demand, that's not the case in India. Infrastructure decisions in India are taken after demand has reached a certain point. So it will look chaotic. India is chaotic, that's for sure. But an Indian is used to it, a foreigner will be taken aback. So the chaos is seen as a sign of inefficiency, but things keep chugging along regardless.

You remember our discussion on demonetization? You were of the opinion that India is fcked for the next 10 years. But nothing bad happened.

The fact that Kerala has extremely high HDI even with a relatively low per capita income shows that you don't need a lot of money to have a better quality of life. I had posted elsewhere, Modi wants to introduce universal health care in India by 2022. China still doesn't have it even with a $11T economy. Most of the time, a simple change in policy and priority brings about major change.

i am curious about how a starving country can have a 66 years life expectancy, I guess it's some Mumbai stats.

Take it up with the UN.
http://www.firstpost.com/india/life...-health-care-services-inadequate-2790442.html
In 2015, life expectancy at birth was 68.3 years in India which breaks down to 66.9 years for men and 69.9 for women, the WHO’s World Statistics Report 2016 found. In 1990, Indians were expected to live on an average till 58 years. This rose to 66 years in 2013.

India has lower life expectancy because of child mortality rates and diseases, and that's improving.

Mumbai's life expectancy is lower than the national average.

.
I beg to differ, I see that Modi overused Dalai Lama card and brings the two country's relationship to a dead end of no return. We had Ok relations with past Indian governments it's never been this bad.
That what you will like us to believe, we don't think its Ok relationship.

Modi is creating another Pakistan for India, one more sworn enemy, but this one is too big for India to take on.
You have to come down to reality, another Pakistan. If at all anyone is at Fault her it is China period.

Fked for the next 10 yearz? Plz dun put words in my mouth. I stated that India carried out demonetization haphazardly and it was mote of a political gimmick. Is black money still there? Yes it is. Didnt my predictions come thru? Economic growth dropped by 1% for an effort to convert one form of blsck money to another. Isnt it dumb?

India has small colonies of eccellence in a sea of slum. So i am talking about the overall picture. Just come to China....see it for yourself. I have been to Chennai, bangalore and mumbai. Those are supposedly nice urban areas, i cant imagine how the rural areas would be like

I brlieve you have no idea how the Chinese social securuty system works. China has got a better quality universal healthcare system compared to India...why do u think ur kids are dying n starving and not Chinas.

No, India did not lose 1% of growth. It wasn't even .5%. In fact, Q3 saw a growth of 7%.
http://indianexpress.com/article/bu...h-rate-demonetisation-7-per-cent-cso-4548502/

And we gained 9.1 million new tax payers.

And a lot of people involved in high level corruption have been caught. Many have come under tax scrutiny.
http://www.livemint.com/Industry/J2...18-lakh-deposits-after-note-ban-that-not.html
Launching Operation Clean Money, the income-tax department said on Tuesday that it has, for a start, identified 1.8 million people whose cash deposits after demonetization do not match their taxpayer profiles.

Stock markets are doing better than ever post demonetization.

India Inc's sales grew by 14.8% in Q4.

And the big whopper: Unemployment halves.
http://www.dnaindia.com/academy/report-india-s-unemployment-rate-sees-sharp-decline-report-2343019
Contrary to market perception, India's unemployment rate halved from 9.5% in August 2016 to 4.8% in February this year and among major states,

Here's what WB has to say about demonetization.
http://www.hindustantimes.com/busin...ld-bank-ceo/story-8Khb9U8UHOoEXoi75vyDfI.html
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to ban high-value banknotes as part of efforts to stamp out corruption will have a profound and positive impact on India’s economy, World Bank CEO Kristalina Georgieva has said.

And, finally, who you believe are slum dwellers.
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/...n-a-wild-goose-chase/articleshow/58489682.cms
Some of the largest cash deposits in banks during demonetization were made by 'slum dwellers'.

Real slumdog millionaires there.

India has small colonies of eccellence in a sea of slum. So i am talking about the overall picture. Just come to China....see it for yourself. I have been to Chennai, bangalore and mumbai. Those are supposedly nice urban areas, i cant imagine how the rural areas would be like

China's immigration is controlled by the hukou system. India has no such system, anybody can live anywhere in India.

The quality of life of the poor in cities is worse than in rural areas. That's why Mumbai's life expectancy is lower than the country's average.

I brlieve you have no idea how the Chinese social securuty system works. China has got a better quality universal healthcare system compared to India...why do u think ur kids are dying n starving and not Chinas.

China doesn't have universal health care. People pay for health care in China. Universal health care = free health care. What China has is universal health insurance. It means you still have to foot 70% of your bill in a city hospital.

You still haven't understood. You don't need more money to have a better quality of life. Many times a person will choose poorer infrastructure in exchange for quality food, education and health care.

http://indiatoday.intoday.in/story/...-modi-health-minister-j-p-nadda/1/905939.html
"In order to provide access and financial protection at secondary and tertiary care levels, NHP 2017 proposes free drugs, free diagnostics and free emergency care services in all public hospitals," he said.

"Every one in the country will be given assured health services. Every section of the society belonging to any financial status, whosoever comes to our public health facility, will get assured services. This policy is patient centric and the patient has been empowered," Nadda told reporters.

Look at the scale involved. A $2.45T economy will soon be offering free health services to 1.3 billion people while a $11T China is yet to do something similar.

That's not true , China used to have this universal healthcare for 3 decades in Mao's era but it doesn't mean people were more healthy back then, as for India , before you boast about it, better do some reality check first
china doesn't have enough healthcare facilities and funding to support universal health care...Any country can declare universal health care but doesn't mean they can actually deliver. Modi like to brag alot, we might see it, but nothing will come of it since indian facilities are already overwhelmed, and covers only urban centers

That's true , North Korea also has universal healthcare.

Infant malnutrition incidence in India worse than that in Africa
THE HANS INDIA | May 10,2017 , 05:13 AM IST

.
DUBIOUS RECORDOnly one in 10 Indian children aged 6-23 months gets "adequate diet", according to an IndiaSpend analysis of data from National Family Health Survey 2015-16 (NFHS-4). Consequently, 35.7 per cent of children below five years of age are underweight, according to NFHS-4 data. India has more malnourished children than sub-Saharan Africa and nearly one of every five malnourished children in the world is from India. After birth, between 0-6 months, breastmilk alone is sufficient to meet an infant's requirement for food and water.Only 55 per cent children are exclusively breastfed for six months, according to NFHS-4, a rise of nine per cent from 2005-06 (NFHS-3). The period of transition from exclusive breastfeeding to family foods, referred to as complementary feeding, covers a child from 6-23 months and is a vulnerable period. It is the time when malnutrition starts in many infants, contributing to the high prevalence of malnutrition in children under two years of age.Optimal breastfeeding in the first year and complementary feeding practices together can prevent almost one-fifth of deaths in children under five years of age, according to the United Nations Children's Fund. Optimal complementary feeding is the most effective intervention that can significantly reduce stunting during the first two years of life. Stunted children are more susceptible to falling sick, underperforming in schools, more likely to become overweight and often earn less than non-stunted co-workers.Furthermore, inadequate iron intake can lead to iron deficiency anaemia (IDA) which leads to permanently impaired cognitive abilities, which leads to a reduction in adult wages, according to a 2015 study. An "adequate diet" is defined as introduction of nutritionally-adequate and safe complementary (solid) foods at six months together with continued breastfeeding up to two years of age or beyond.

THIS IS THE INDIAN UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE!! LOL

Has demonetisation in India met its purpose, or is it just another failure?

The question that’s still juggling in the minds of many people is that how brokers were able to convert crores of rupees into new pink notes.

It made people angry when they came across the news that bank managers were backing all these illegal conversions.

India is still reeling under the effects and feeling the pinch of the cash crunch. It may take a couple of months to get the pace normalise. Modi’s act was an experiment, with no precedent example; No one has done it earlier. So, it’s difficult to say what will happen to the Indian economy in next few months. It may be a big hit or may not be; It’s too difficult to speculate.

Initially, demonetization was sold by Modi as a campaign to fight corruption. It was thought that the country’s black market wouldn’t be able to exchange or deposit the illegal wealth which was in the clutches of few fraudsters.

Even with a strict master plan, the act of government seems to be a big failure.

Yes, it is, and this is because its primary purpose was not solved. Even after the tight and strict rules in implementation, the money launderers were able to unload their black currency using loopholes. In return, they got currency that is whiter than white.

And ultimately it was common people who suffered from it. Not all ATM’s loaded with cash. We still see people searching for money.

India seems to be slowly recovering, and by the time people were getting accustomed to the after-effects of demonetization they were again raged by the decision taken and amendments that happened in the banking sector.

And this time, it’s again common citizens who were becoming the scapegoats of bankers’ greed.

Banks are levying huge amounts in charges on customers. These charges include ATM transaction charges, minimum amount charges, etc.

Just imagine the situation of a commoner who is living in a metro city for the purpose of earning his living. How can he keep 5,000 Rupees (US$ 77.42) in the bank if he earns just 10,000 (US$154.84) per month. If not then he would end up losing a day’s payout.

Another interesting question that arises is why people should pay ATM transaction charges when the machines always show up a “no cash” board anyway, and make people stand for hours in front of them.

This is what’s in the minds of common citizens. We are levied charges for using money that we earned.

After demonetisation, all the banks made people link all legal documents like PAN card and Aadhar card with their bank accounts as a step to Know Your Customer or KYC. If not, your accounts will be terminated.

These banks attracted people with zero balance accounts, and now they are looting people with charges.

Do we enjoy democracy still, regarding the economy? Do we have financial freedom? India is still a developing country, and there are many people who are below poverty line.

In the process of making India go digital, the government has taken various steps. One among them is that it is now mandatory to link a bank account to receive any subsidies from the government like gas and ration, and if you have a bank account you need to maintain a minimum balance of 5,000 Rupees (US$ 77.42). So how can this be possible for a common who depends on monthly ration to feed his family?

Also read: Is India shifting toward a cashless economy after cash demonetisation?

This how the government is lacking in the proper plan of action.

It seems like such actions are only making people lose faith in the government that rose to power by promising people to make their lives better.

The outcome is that whatever the measures the government is taking were all a failure due to loopholes in execution that ultimately helped the fraudsters.

There should be a proper plan of action to win the faith of common man. Until then it’s the common man who suffers.

6 months of demonetisation: Cash back to being king, shortage at ATMs continues
Prominent Indian banks have claimed there is no cash crunch, but fact remains that ATMs run dry during long weekends. The crisis began in November when the Union government pulled 500 and 1000 rupee banknotes from circulation as a part of its crackdown on black money.

Per capita wise and living standard, India is closer to Pakistan. In terms of military technology, India is closer to that of Pakistan. But because Indians were dominated by foreigners for a long time. They developed inferiority complex. This complex resulted in self grandeur and bragging. That is why many Indians try to compare to China in every turn and make proclamation that Indian is ahead of China. On the very, very few area that India is really ahead, India of course gloat all over but then also proclaim that they are ahead of US. For example, since India is the only other country besides USA that has a probe circling Mars, some Indians claims that India is ahead of US. If you think I'm making up this Bollywood crap, google it.

In sum, Indian inferiority complex cause them to compare only with countries that are way ahead of them, not equal to them. That is why Indians obsessively compare to China.

We have seen such inferiority complex here on the forum from people of one country, who feel ashamed in putting their own country flag and reveal their true identity and talks about the inferiority complex of others.

supa Powa.

And what is this?

You people are so obsessed and preoccupied with India that you are unable to write even a single meaningful post on any forum related to India. We know what weaknesses we have and we are working on it. Reeducation camp educated brains can hardly understand and discuss anything which is meaningful.

China gets compared by many countries, US media and Trump compare themselves with China more than their Indian counterparts do. But I almost never see US comparing themselvs with India.

May be they are inspired with dictatorship of china and trump may be wanting to be Xi of US.

I guess you must be over 90 years old, are you? Otherwise how can you remember that distant history. It's always like Americans talking about American revolution.

Actually most Chinese posters here have the experience either studying or living abroad or both. and that's what happens to us after know the western system ins and outs

Studying in the US makes the Chinese more appreciative of China
