it depends upon the voilations
right now it's a three warning system
a ban is issued after three warnings
the duration depends upon the voilation.
.
The warnings stays for some time even after the ban is lifted
more warnings will make the second ban longer
.
Permanent banning is for :
>Double accounts
>explict, or pornographic content in post
>Female harrassment

i wanna know too....

Thats called infraction.....On some sites its for a week and some infractions can extend upto 40-45days.that depends on how lenient your admin is.
Banning is different,it means getting thrown out of the site..permanently.And yes the IP gets blocked too.
The reasons can be anything from self promotion,promoting an external site,soliciting,slandering members,using offensive language,ignoring the mods warnings repeatedly...etc etc.
These are the common reasons why a member gets banned on ANY site/forum.
