United States intends to sell C-130 transport planes to China (Update 2)

White House Web site announced the sale to China Obama to cancel the C-130 transport aircraft restrictions and the letter addressed to the Speaker of the House and Senate.

Obama said in the letter, according to congressional authorization bill, and based on the U.S. national interest, decided to cancel the removal of offshore oil exports to China for the C-130 transport aircraft of the relevant restrictions.

The letter said: “in accordance with 1990 and 1991,” Foreign Relations Authorization Act “(Foreign Relations Authorization Act) Section 902 (b) (2) provides that, in my capacity as President notified Congress of the United States, based on national interests, termination of the first 902 (a) (3) shall on munitions exports to China issued a temporary permit provisions, C-130 transport aircraft for the export restrictions. ”

Obama also said in the letter, the export C-130 transport planes to China, is a marine oil spill response action purposes. But piece by piece needed an export license application, and by the Government for approval.

It will be the first time since 1989 U.S. exports to China high-tech military weapons.

C-130 transport aircraft in the United States medium-developed multi-purpose tactical transport aircraft, landing in the front-line force and can track the ups and downs in the field. In addition to the U.S. Air Force aircraft equipped with a thousand, but also exported to more than 50 countries and regions.

China expected to buy between 12 – 24, but there are high possibilities the order may be very big.

Most likely US will offer the civilian version with less powerful engines and less advance avionics, as it is stated the aircrafts will be used for oil spill cleaning operations.

May be US and China concluded a deal during recent meeting between Obama and Wen Jia Bao for China to buy these aircrafts to reduce the adverse balance of trade by US. It means more export for US and more employment, and China will get some pressure off the demands for appreciation of its currency. Hope this is not my wishful thinking.

why bother to buy a plane designed 50 years ago?

Wow American cars? Stop it right there my friend. Did you know that people joke FORD as "Fix Or Repair Daily"? American cars are of the lowest quality in the world.. I have driven plenty of American cars. They are :no::no::no::no:

As for the design of C-130. It is a very old design that is, well, frankly pretty crappy. Also the only thing that's 50 years old is the design. Planes do not fly 50 years. No plane in history has flown 50 years.

Uh...huh...We had our experience with the Yugo, the car that a communist country produced. Hopefully China learned that lesson.

Try the B-52. There are aircrafts that are literally older than the crew. Until China can produce an airframe with that level of longevity...

wow your post clearly shows how little you no about china and i think we should immediatly stop using jf17 since they are chinese

I hope China do not buy C-130 and develop original one.

C-17 maybe meet the need, but C-130 is same class with Y-8

Chinese automakers still can't lick quality problems - Drive On: A conversation about the cars and trucks we drive - USATODAY.com
If you think Chinese small cars will inundate the U.S. the way that Japanese cars took the country by storm in the 1960s and 1970s, well, rest easy. Ain't going to happen anytime soon. That's because there is every indication that the Chinese are not only failing to lick their quality problems -- but the cars may actually be getting worse.

Crash Course in Quality for Chinese Car - WSJ.com
Among Russia's most respected car magazines, AvtoRevu has conducted 39 crash tests in its 17-year history, many of locally made cars not tested by governments elsewhere. One of the worst performances -- a score of 0 out of 16 -- was recorded by an Avtovaz model in 2001. At times, the magazine has been scathing about the safety record of some homegrown models, and it has also given top marks to some foreign models that compete with Russian ones, including cars from the U.S., Italy, France and South Korea.

The Amulet was subjected to a test that AvtoRevu calls Europe's benchmark, the EuroNCAP. On impact with a metal crash barrier at 64 kilometers (nearly 40 miles) per hour, the Amulet's front door sills "crumpled like newspaper," AvtoRevu said in its June issue. The magazine said the test dummy became so entwined with the wreckage of the car that it had to be removed piece by piece. Out of a possible 16 points, the Amulet got just 1.7.
With the 'Amulet' tag, you may need prayers and fortune in owning it.

I guess the reason why two of America's big three needed government bailouts was their cars were so well-made and long-lasting that their customers won't buy a new one in 50 years.

Let me guess...You believe that Chinese automobile manufacturers are truly independent of government support of ANY kind...???

The Chinese automotive industry has the political and financial support of its government, which is encouraging automakers to develop a made–in–China vehicle and take it international.
