Pakistan To Upgrade C-130 Fleet, US DSCA Tells Congress

US is mostly grants us the things of their own interest mean which we can use against Taliban only not hi-tech for country defence and they claim we are their FRONT LINE ALLIES....

you can even ask US to fix and upgrade your car because you use it to spot terrorists :)

Hmm, no upgrade to AC130 ?

It would be a great asset against ground targets.
Slow stable flight, and massive firepower.

AC-130 is banned from being exported.

US is mostly grants us the things of their own interest mean which we can use against Taliban only not hi-tech for country defence and they claim we are their FRONT LINE ALLIES....

What hi-tech equipment do you require?

Excellent idea!

The A-10, which us old timers in the USAF nick named the "flying bathtub" exist and now is a good time to ask for some.

Sure, why not? Pakistan would be given the money with one hand to buy the planes, then with the other hand Pakistan executes the purchase.

A-10s were offered to Pakistan along with F-15/16/18? in the 80s. Pakistan choose the F-16. Even if the USAF finally has the political muscle to get rid of the A-10s from USAF service, I greatly doubt they will be provided to Pakistan.

Due to India and negative Pakistani views in America, and fear the plane will be shared with China.

The US Military "AID" in question is for US Military Surplus equipment and upgrades.

Pakistan can not use the money to buy C-130s or F-16s from Saudi Arabia or Jordan.

Pakistan can however buy American Military equipment from any country, provided American approval, and have this equipment refurbished by an American company using the "AID" money.

Pakistan is free to request additional surplus C-130s and have them refurbished in the US. But then the question is does Pakistan have the money to make good use of the planes? An Aircraft engine/ fuselage needs repairs regardless of if you fly it or it's just a show piece.

EDIT:
There is a misconception among many people in the world. That any Aid the US gives to countries can be spend however the recipient country requests. This is FALSE. of the Aid given by the US 80% has to be spent in the US. Its a self-funding economic stimulus with the feeling of being Majestic.

Pakistan requests C-130 fleet upgrade

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress of a potential foreign military sale (FMS) of a C-130 fleet upgrade program and associated equipment to Pakistan.

Under the estimated $100m sale, Pakistan has requested a possible sale of C-130B/E avionics upgrades, engine management and mechanical upgrades, cargo delivery system installation, and the replacement of outer wing sets on six military transport aircraft.

The package also includes spare and repair parts, support equipment, publications and technical documentation, personnel training and training equipment, US Government and contractor technical and logistics support services, and other related elements of logistics support.

The upgrade are expected to enable the continued operation of the Pakistan Air Force's (PAF) C-130 fleet for counter-insurgency/counter-terrorism flights, regional humanitarian operations, troop transport, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions within Pakistan and in the region.

Comprising five C-130B and 11 C-130E models, PAF's fleet is facing airworthiness and obsolescence issues, and will require upgrades and repairs for continued operation and effectiveness.

"The proposed modernization is also anticipated to ensure C-130's continued viability for an additional 10 to15 years."

The proposed sale also contributes to the foreign policy and national security of the US by helping to enhance the security of a major non-Nato ally, which continues to serve as an important force for regional stability and US national security goals in the region.

The prime contractor currently remains undisclosed, and is expected to be determined through a competitive bid process in future.

Powered by four Allison AE2100D3 turboprop engines, the C-130 aircraft is designed to conduct airborne assault, search-and-rescue, scientific research support, weather reconnaissance and aerial refuelling, maritime patrol and aerial firefighting operations

1st C130 to be upgraded by AIROD of Malaysia starting June 2015

Why? when you have complete C-130 infrastructure for the last 50 years. Those 17-18 C-130s are more than enough for the next 15-20 Years max.
.
How the strange is that PAF(Pakistan Armed forces) using a plane for almost 50 years and which is game changer and PAF only operates just 16 of Them?

How sad is this..:hitwall:

Good move by PAF the C-130 fleet needs to be upgraded. Those who are saying that Pakistan needs more C-130 are right but not completely, we need them but there is no urgency.
In case of a purchase I dont' see that either KSA or Jordan would be eager to sell C-130 to PAF because they face the threat of ISIS more than any other country. I don't think they would sell anything(defense equipment) to any one.
The people who are thinking of A-10 in PAF a good idea. It is a fact that A-10 along with F-15/18/16 were offered to Pakistan but that ain't happening now either because of India or China whatever the reason is.
A-10 is good for anti-tank role and for that PAF and PAA are looking at Russian alternatives(Mi-35 and Mi-28)
